All my programs have been erased from the All programs section of my start menu in vista. For a while I've been resorting to opening programs up in my C drive under Program Files.
Is there any way short of system restore I can get my start menu back?

I believe Windows built-in system restore will restore icons back. However, whatever software you have installed from the restore point will not work.

for a start...when your mouse cursor is hovered over the start/all programs/and is highlight blue...right click with mouse...choose explore all users (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs)...all my program shortcuts are in the folder called "Programs"...they also show up in the explore tree layout to the left under the folders tree...maybe take a look at the attributes by right clicking on the top of the tree on programs or an empty spot in the programs window choose properties and see if the attrubutes are set to hidden instead of read only

. probably lost ur profile due to some installed tweak/performance utility
. can try create another profile, it should bring back the default "start menu"
. or review the group policy, see if "hiding" start menu is being ticked off
cheers ...
Everything erased from start bar.
