I don't do a lot of work with spreadsheets and the like, but am now in a situation which would benefit me most to use one.
I am making a log of my running. I want to input the date, the distance ran, the time ran, and the approximate amount of calories burned (according to the treadmill).
I've come across a problem with the times I input. I want to put them in the format minutes:seconds, reguardless of whether or not it was an hour or more.
The other thing I want is a total distance, time, and calories. I want the total time to be calculated in the form hours:minutes:seconds.
Does anyone know of a way to achieve this? I apologize for being an Excel newbie. This is probably a simple problem, but I have not found a solution.
Thanks!

right click on a cell or a group of selected cells and go to "format cells" here you can specify anything about your data type.
when the data type is set correctly then normal math claculations will work on them such as 40sec + 50sec = 1:30sec
