Hi guys,
Was hoping one of you might be able to help me with an issue i'm having using excel 2007. Not a traditional post for here, but i'm starting to get a bit desperate!!
When i was using Excel 03, i was able to graph a table of data with the last row being a 'remainder' - i.e. total - sum of other rows. Basically, this let me shift datapoints on the graph which in turn changed the data in the table, with the remainder value ensuring that the total was unchanged.
For some reason in Excel 07, i can't seem to move markers on the line graph to push changes back to the original data. Has anyone got any ideas that might work? Basically, it's easier to do the work visually on a graph rather than just looking at data.

Would you mind posting the data you are entering into the spreadsheet?

Apac 54.62 46.08 50.59 55.46 60.73 66.44 72.61
Eastern Asia 39.72 33.15 36.04 39.17 42.57 46.25 50.24
Rest of Asia 14.90 12.94 14.55 16.29 18.16 20.19 22.37
Rest of Asia set up as: =(R1C*-R2C*)
That way, if i change the first value of Eastern Asia (39.72), the value for Rest of Asia (14.90) will change accordingly such that APAC (54.62) is unchanged. It's bascially just playing with distribution. My problem is that in Excel 2003, i could throw this into a line graph and play with the markers. The figures would then change accordingly.. i seem unable to do this in Excel 2007 -
I don't think Excel 2007 allows this type of manipulation. Honestly, I see little point in changing the data values inside of the graph itself, because the values won't be exact. Tables have exact values, and there would be no way to ensure those values are correct if you can merely drag a line around inside of a chart.
I've used Excel for years, making graphs and charts, and the ability to change table data by moving points around in the graph never even occurred to me. I'd guess that Microsoft felt the same way.
Perhaps I don't understand exactly why you'd need this type of control of a graph. Can you explain the reasons why you feel this is a necessary control?
I guess you could ask your question in one of the Microsoft usenet groups - if there's a way to do this, someone in there would know.
