    Hi,

I have found a software for my HP 8510p, its name is Vista Battery Saver and it is a freeware...

Aero and SlideBar are the most power-consuming feature in Vista..

By using this software, when the computer is run on battery, these two features will be closed automatically to save power and extend your battery life~

    Let's get a try~~

Aero makes a 1-4% difference in battery life; a very minimal impact... is that worth it? You decide.

Lol? You can close them yourself. Why have a program do it for you. :x

LOL, Did you bother to look and see what the program actually does before you criticized it?

It is actually quite useful. It monitors the battey and will disable Aero and Sidebar when power drops below a certain value. Also it can be set up to turn Aero and Sidebar on only when running on AC power. Here is a screenshot.

I use it for switching power schemes when i got battery, SINCE thats the only WAY it will switch PERIOD, that i have found, so far...

Now i just need some way to change my brightness on battery !!
They are supposed to add it, but windows doesnt see the lcd as being able to be dimmed anyway, so that wont help

First of all, I don't even use Windows Sidebar, and second, windows aero isn't a battery drainer; it hardly makes a dent on my 12 cell battery. If you feel you need a program to disable them for you, go ahead and use it. I was stating my 2 cents.

.... but it's pretty. Vista without Aero is plain jane XP! Besides I set my laptop to hibernate when it falls below a certain percentage. Besides an added software running in the background wastes resource.

    Vista without Aero aint XP..

You can use 3rd party programs.. which dont use your GPU & give Aero effect.

    Transbar, TrueTransparency, Shock3D.

These 3 programs give Aero on any Windows. especially Vista Basic.

Why Aero drains battery is coz it uses GPU. And GPU is no.1 Battery drainer & heater on laptops.

Why would I want to use 3rd party programs if Vista Ultimate has them all? I tried the Vista look on XP and though it looked nice it used a lot of resources and slowed it down. I'm really not worried about battery useage. On power save mode my 9 cell XPS m1530 lasts for around 4hours and with Dell recommmend power mode around 3hours or so. And I do have another extra battery for really long trips. These times are only for web surfing and internet videos (youtube). Otherwise, I just plug the power cord if need be. I also have an HP dv2138xx with a 12 cell battery and that one runs a little under 4hours on power saver and around 3hours on balanced mode. Again, I have extra batteries for it just in case.
