I have an external hard drive and was wondering if there was a good software that I could get that would easily back it up for me; unless it is easy to do myself. If my hard drive on my laptop dies, then ideally i would like to plug that the external in and be able to run the OS off the disk (I can do that right?). So until i would get a new drive i could still run my computer and get school work done. Thanks in advance!

To run the OS off the disk I believe the computer needs to support booting from a USB, and even then, I don't think it will run an OS off of it. In regards to the backup utility, the inbuilt Windows 7 Utility is pretty good, does what it's supposed to. Simple to use.
