Alright I know alot of people are slanted one way or the other, but what I'm trying to do is determine which one will better suit my needs just on facts and logic. No bias please. I had a few questions like:
1. With Vista, can you still USE Dx 9?
2. I know certain gamers have problems with crysis and other games using dx 10, and I know of the dx 9 workaround. Which is more beneficial? From what I understand the DX 9 tweak runs better.
3. Has vista come far enough from the problems that plagued it to make it a viable os in a new system?
4. There is a way to decrease the amount of memory vista takes up right? I was reading through the tweak guide I just wanted to make sure.
Thanks in advance

1. Yes
2. both work fine but DX10 is newer so dont expect miracles
3. Yes
4. Yes but Vista uses memory in a more efficiant way than XP
Ultimately
You HAVE to try both then decide -
4. You can turn off the Superfetching, but then you turn off a performance boosting feature. If you have 512MB of memory, this won't help and you're better off getting XP or upgrading to at least 1GB.

Don't even think of using only 512mb with Vista. 1gb is marginal at best, you really want 2gb minimum.

I dont game on a PC and of my 5 computers in my house none of them have a video card that could game (most are notebooks, with a few desktops using intergrated video).
Vista is much better now after several "performance updates".....the latest finally fixing the the super slow network copy performance.
It seems like you only need a PC to game with....and in that case I would stick to XP for a while, from what I have read. -
Well, Vista is good enough for a lot of people to use. It sucks enough for a lot of people to want to avoid it.
It depends on what you want from an OS. It still has some technical issues, but for most people, it works fine.
Vista itself uses more memory than XP. That's just how it is.
But furthermore, Superfetch tries to cache recently used files in unused RAM. You can disable that, but there's no point, really. It's a good thing that it tries to do this. The RAM will be freed the moment an application needs it anyway. -
Well I will be having 2 gigs, I think I'm just going to try out vista it seems like most problems are with SLI rigs anyway.

You want the facts?
The fact is that I bought vista, installed it on a more than capable system (2.4ghz core 2 duo, 2 Gb of ram, 8600m gt gddr3), and after playing a few games with the latest drivers installed, I promptly reinstalled xp. -
Vista has become a very stable system for the general audience. For those more "tech savvy," I would suggest XP, right now. Hopefully Vista SP1 will get Vista where it needs to be.
-
Well isn't SP 1 already "out" if you will? Anyone with experience with the beta SP1 that can give input?

Lol waveblade I've been watching lost religiously the past week and am halfway through season 3. I don't get your allusion to season 1 though.
