Well box.net gives you a gig free. Not sure if they use FTP. Does it have to be FTP and why?
-
Well, it may be hard, since if they are free, they can only give so much space without people taking advantage, etc.
How about setting up your own ftp? Though, is there any info we can get on what you're gonna do with it? -
i've tried box.net...but i am the only one who can see the files..i have to upgrade in order for the public to see and download the files
can some1 help me wit setting up my own FTP??...i was just going to put direct files for people to download...such as free Anti-Spyware and Anti-Virus software
it doesn't have to be FTP...but do you guys know any other ways instead of FTP?..that is free...or something i can set up from my computer?? -
Well i am assuming you want to do this in windows, so i will refer you to this page for a full tutorial: http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1491
If you wanna do it in linux i reccomend you go to your distros wiki and search for a fttpd setup. -
You go on the hostsite, select the file you want to upload. The file then will be uploaded and when done you get a link that you can deploy to your buddies, if they click on that link they have to wait like 30 seconds to see advertisement, then they can download it with fullspeed.
Its good for private use. I use www.rapidshare.de sometimes. You should be able to find some hosters using google in your language -

ok...thanks a lot!! -

yousendit.com

Well you could always create a web page with links on it. You could either host it yourself (if your gonna do it this way i would reccomend abyss web server because it is very simple) or you can create a google page ( http://pages.google.com ) with a google account. if you dont have a google account (you can use the same user and pass as a gmail account) PM me and i will give you an invite.

SmartFTP is what i suggest to my students. It's free - and has all the good features you need (CHMOD, scheduled transfer, ASCII/Binary, etc, etc)
-
I use www.yousendit.com. I have sent and received files up to 20MB and it works great.

Host your own FTP using Filezilla
Clubbox (korean tho) like 3GB-5GB storage, no bandwidth limits, and after you upload it once it keeps it in your online folder and you can share it with your friends. But of course its in Korean -_- -
k..thanks a lot!

Most (if not all) of sites posted either don't allow direct linking, or aren't FTP.
http://filecities.com/ (the best one)
http://www.fileden.com/
are a couple good browser-based ones (not FTP), both allow direct linking.
For a free FTP account, try http://www.phpnet.us/ (though they are meant to be a web-hosting site, and it's possible that your site gets deleted if you just use it for file-hosting without putting up an html page or anything.)
