When ever I would reinstall XP I always did a full format vs. the quick format option figuring things would be snappier from the get go. I never read this any where but I imagine that when a quick format is performed the hard drive is formated just enough to install the OS (still on XP here) and when it's all said and done the OS will perform format tasks in the background on the rest of the drive until the drive is completely formated.
Then along comes Vista which seems to, on a fresh non-partitioned drive, just do a quick format and then off she goes.
I do love this forum community so I'm sure there are some people out there that know more about this than I do that will enlighten me. Are my assumptions close? And if so, in Vista, is there a way to fully format the drive for NTFS before installing vista?

I thought quick format just skipped the check disk process so its a lot faster... other than that its the same as a "full format".

Vista seems to do quick formats during the windows install....!!
You can do a NTFS format using GParted....its pretty straightforward..!! -
