Hey guys
I currently own a Razer Blade 14 running a fresh install of Windows 8. I've one profile setup and various metro/non-metro apps installed on my computer. I'm using Windows Defender as my antivirus and all recent updates are installed.
I tried upgrading to Windows 8.1 and it keeps failing. It takes nearly 1.5 hours to download from the Microsoft Store, then reboots to "setup loading" followed by the percentage. It then reboots again and a blue screen pops up saying it has encountered an error and it reboots. It then proceeds to a black screen at which point I manually power off the laptop and it recovers my old installation.
It boots to this screen:

I run cleanmgr to delete the windows 8.1 download from the Windows Store, and I deleted the recovery partition that gets created (350MB) on my C:/.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. I would generally like to avoid having to clean install Windows 8.1.

What was the blue screen error? I know with a lot of Samsung models the proprietary software from 8.0 will cause many and issue even with drivers and 8.1...........
-
8.1 didn't like my system reserved partition, it could be that, but it's probably some proprietary software like TANWare suggested.
-
What's the system reserve partition?
Also, I found my error detailed here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com...indows-81-upgrade-issues?forum=w8itproinstall

Got the same error when trying to update on my ThinkPad T510 (not sure if the code is the same, i wrote it down to check in to it further later on). It updated fine on a VM I'm running on my Mac

Update: found some updates to this issue
Razer Guide to updating to Windows 8.1

You should check that link again as it got a bit more complicated. Nothing like making it simple and easy..............
-
Edit: did not work. It proceeded past the second reboot but hung after "restoring of settings" to a black screen. Contacting windows and Razer to see what the deal is -
bump, anyone else have trouble upgrading to windows 8.1, and if so, how/did you eventually get it to work?

I just spent today going back to v8.0 from v8.01 a full system recovery as you cannot uninstall it, i don't like it, too many comparability warnings with my apps, also i dont like the start button only a small right/click menu, i prefer the iobit start button, also the modern options have changed for everything, and you need a load of new v8.01 drivers, i will be sticking with v8.0 but i suppose ou want to see for yourself.

FYI: Huge thanks for the unlocked Y series BIOS

It was shopped, but the young un's here probably didn't know that in the old days we had to install the OS using lots of floppy's.

, No thumbs up.
That's not funny!!! Funny graphic though - LOL.
I've done more than my fair share of those.
I can't even stand the speed of CD-ROM. Mostly now when possible I copy the program installer file(s) to a external hard drive then install from there. -

Yeah, i remember installing Windows from Disk loads of time, i was over the moon when cd`s came out, you could only fit 1.44mb out of 2.00 mb on a Disk the fat took the rest, though Microsoft had a way to fit almost 2.00mb on their disks by doing some trick with the fat, those were the days.

I remember drilling an second hole`s in my Amiga SD (Single Density) Disks to turn them into PC DD (Double Density) Disks, but a load of them would fail the DD formatting.
That`s when i got my first PC an 386 SX33Mhz no maths co-processor, i paid £300 for 8mb of memory and it had a 200mb HDD and an 512k graphic card, and i was running 3.1 Windows for Workgroups.

install this update to go from Win 8 to 8.1.
Update is available that enables a notification to be displayed that helps you update Windows 8 or Windows RT to Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1 -
