I am looking for fan control software for my laptop.
I am currently using nVidia NTUNE. I have the latest version from their website. (5.054) It recognizes the entire system, but it is not allowing me to change the fan speed.
    That region is grayed out.
Is there some kind of professional version which has everything?

I have "SMART FAN" Enabled in the bios, but it only controls one fan from 10,000 - 18,500 rpm. Its kinda sporadic.
The three other main fans are not even read. Only one of the four shows rpm in the BIOS. The rest say "N/A"
This makes no sense because each fan is identical and all have a built in tachometer

I tried speedfan, but that program doesnt read anything right

Are there any other alternatives short of a hardware based fan controller?

Oh yeah, the three fans which state "N/A" for rpm are locked at full rpm

I've been looking into changing the fan speeds on my laptop too. Care to tell me how you managed to fix your problem?

I think its rarely possible if the manufactor havent made it possible, like i think dell has on some of their laptops.

The fan is usually completely controlled by the bios.

I have 8 fan headers on my motherboard. Apparently, if I plug 4 fans into my motherboard all fans stay pretty much locked at full speed. I made two adaptors, so that I can power two sets of fans on each header. Since there are two CPU headers, all four fans are now controlled by the board. They throttle between 0 and 18,500rpm now

Please note that my laptop is my homemade one, so the motherboard is not anything what you would find in your run of the mill HP, Dell, Alienware, etc.

There are ways you can control the fans in your laptop, there are fan programs such as I8KFANGUI - works on most older Dells

But there are other ways, you can short the fan controller forcing the fan to full speed, or you can solder the fan leads to a USB Hub for continuous 5V operation
Or you can make a Circuit with a microcontroller which you can control the fan with. This can be done by power through a USB port and control/calibration through an onboard serial or parallel port

Yeah, thats what I expected....the Ocitron is still going huh?

Anyways, I'm looking into changing the dsdt tables instead of doing anything hardware wise. Haven't really spent much time on it but from what I've seen, the resources for it have been a bit sparse to say the least.

    I make mistakes Bog.
However this one happened independent of me.
I was installing Windows XP Pro X-64 when disaster struck. The installation nearly finished, but my system decided to shut off.
Afterwards it will not boot at all.
It turns out one of my chipsets has failed. It has two 570SLI chips, making a 680a chipset. With one failed, I cant even get the BIOS to load.
    So my motherboard is dead.
I will be replacing it with a new TYAN board.
I just got to RMA my ASUS board first.
