Fastest way to clone a power plan and make it easy to toggle "suspend on close lid"?

My Samsung Series 9 comes with two power plans, "Samsung optimized" and "power saver". Both plans suspend the laptop when the lid is closed, and the only plan I really use is the Samsung one.

What I really need is to toggle the suspending of the laptop when I close the lid. Some days I'm connected to a VPN all the time and I don't want to suspend the laptop when I close the lid to move the laptop around.

I don't know if there's a shortcut for that, but my idea was to clone the Samsung optimized plan and have a version of it where closing the lid doesn't do anything. However, I haven't seen a way to clone the Samsung plan, and when I create a new plan, clicking the battery icon in the system tray only lets me have 2 plans in there, and one of them is always the "power saver" plan which I'm not interested in.

How do I get more plans shown when I click that icon, how do I clone a plan, or is there another quicker way to toggle "suspend on close lid"?

I've never heard of that kind of toggle, but another option would be to set your "samsung" power profile to not suspend when you close the lid, and then just set the power button to suspend the laptop when it is pressed. Then whenever you want to suspend, just press the power button and close the lid.

option 1-- Go ahead and create your new plan rather than changing the Samsung one. Name it what ever you want. The Samsung optimized plan should still exist, but will not show when you click the battery icon. To find it click the "more power options" on the little screen that pops up when you click the battery icon. If it does not show, click " show additionl plans " button. It will take a few clicks to change plans with this method but you should be able to create several plans and change between them.

Option 2- Since you never use power saver anyway, change the settings in it to be similar to the Samsung one and then change the lid action to do nothing. You will no longer have a true power saving plan, but it sounds like that should not be a problem for you. If you are the only one using the laptop, having power saving button that is not really a power saver won't matter. You could try making a 3rd custom one to be a low power plan that really works. I am guessing that the Samsung one and the original power saver buttons will stay on the battery icon unless you actually choose the low power one. In that case. I think low power and power saver will show on the battery icon and you will have to go through the more power option screen to get back to the Samsung power option.

I found that when I created a new power plan, it would never stick in the two possible options shown by left-clicking the power meter. I don't know how many clicks it takes for it to stick but either that doesn't work or I haven't tried it enough times.

Here's how I got it to work though: I created a new plan by using powercfg and duplicating the "high performance" plan. I chose that one because that's one that always sticks (power saver actually didn't). Then I renamed and customized the new plan to be just like the Samsung one but without sleep on close.
