What is your favorite player? Why?

I have used winamp, wmp, itunes, and jetaudio. Of these four, i personally like jetaudio because of it's simple user interface and superb sound enhancements. :D

It's not memory and cpu hog. It gives me the best music possible without slowing down my pc. :p

iTunes, they are easy to use and innovative, they seems to be thought out very well, to even the smallest detail. though the itunes 7 seems to be a bit bloated (mostly for that album (cover) art view) and it still is kinda buggy.

    I use itunes and WMP11.
I wish iTunes was less intrusive, I don't like the QT bundle.

    Looks: Winamp 2.8x
Functionality: Foobar2000, as it supports unicode
Hate: iTunes, MusicMatch, anything else with a huge UI

    I like Winamp
I also use Creative Mediasource, my music seems to sound better using that (maybe the EAX equalizer)
I really don't like iTunes (annoys me), WMP (especially 11) (don't like the UI) and RealPlayer (tries to take over my system)

I prefer Winamp, as it's simple, I have it set up just as i like with a few plugins, and it just sits in the tray plaing music unobtrusively most of the time, like a music player should. Foobar is good too, but I don't feel like spending time messin around with it when winamp is already configured perfectly for my needs.

Agreed, I like iTunes - except for the fact that it eats all resources on my notebook. WMP10 and Winamp are two other programs I use quite often.

iTunes mainly. My lappy runs it fine, and i just like the interface and music folder arrangements. Never really liked winamp. Felt it was a little cramped up. But that was from 2.0, so there may be changes in it.

Personally, i hate it when i try to close WMP11, and for some reason it decides to fire up whatever CD is in my drive (just make it start spinning...as if its going to read the CD before exiting) when i hit the close button. Takes off another 1-2 seconds to go away.

I use Amarok, I find it organises the information (bands, lyrics, wikipedia info and whatnot) the nicest and easiest.

I am using WMP 11. I have used Alsong, Itunes, Winamp, JetAudio, Real, MusicMatch, and Foobar before, but couldn't stick with them.

The reason why I use WMP 11 is because it is compatible and easy to use with my mp3 player, can read Korean and other Asian fonts, and organizes playlists in alphabetical order. I would have sticked with Winamp only if they could organize there playlist in order and have the Asian font working for me.

Would depend on what I am doing, I like HP Quickplay when my notebook is off because I don't have to boot the entire computer. I like Winamp for everything but videos. I like Creative MediaSource when playing things on my Zen Touch. I like Sony Soundforge for editing, and the TCMP on my PDA and watching videos.

I use iTunes because its much more "cleaner" and "organizable" than Windows Media Player 11 (which I also have, but don't use). Also, because I have an iPod Nano, so I need iTunes, and what the heck, it runs fine, so I just stick to it.

I'm currently running MPD (Music Player Daemon) on my linux box, using gmpc as the frontend. It's light weight, capable of handling LARGE databases/playlists and has a variety of frontend clients (GTK, QT, console, web, etc.)

Ok I know some people are gonna say it, but choosing an AUDIO program for cool looking skins is like getting 18" chrome wheels for your ride: sure it looks good but it's not like you'll ever see it while it's running.

Winamp is what I use to as a Default/Associate with my Music and Video files. Also creating quick playlist. It just loads up the quickest and is minimal. I stay with the classic skin.

Itunes is my favorite for Adding Music Folders, Seacrhing, and creating Playlists to burn a CD. Also use it for podcasts.

WMP is my favorite for SYNCing a certain folder, and SYNCing that folder with my MP3 Player, and sometimes my smartphone. It's also handy at getting Album Art for music files that you don't have any for. Itunes charges you for this crap.

Amarok is my favorite Linux player on Ubuntu. I heard Amarok 2 is suppose to be available on Windows. I hope this is true. Might become my Favorite Overall Windows Player.

I messed with JetAudio Years ago, I liked the skins and being able to stream music and have your own station. Not sure how much has changed since.

Winamp : IMO The best customizable player with a load of plugins to do almost anything you want an Audio Player to do. + it supports XM Radio ! :D

Itunes because well...I'm on a Mac and I have an iPod, and others I've tried just weren't that much better to justify using a separate program even when I'm in Windows.

the real question is, why did Microsoft introduce a separate player for zune when it already had wmp :p

Zune was created as a direct competitor to iPod. Seeing as that Apple has its own iTunes I guess MS felt it necessary to create a standalone player as well. Plus Zune has its own Marketplace store and monthly subscription, so in many ways it's like Rhapsody, iTunes, etc in that they have their own players.

Zune also has its own unique DRM for its songs so integrating them into WMP might have also caused its own set of problems. Better off just to create its own player, software, and "space" within Windows rather than dilute the product by integrating into WMP.

iTunes for general music + organization + sync with iPod, and Foobar for audiobooks and language courses.

    Lunar Glass standalone player.
Extremely skimpish on resources (8-10k) and does what i need. Library and playlists made thru WMP and audio DSP's and eq set thru Realtek HD audio mgr.
Have tried WinAmp, iTunes, RealPlayer, MediaMonkey.
iTunes is most overated of all

Naw, iTunes is only the 2nd most overrated of all...Realplayer has the honor of being #1 in that department :p I can't imagine why so many people use it internationally and actively promote the realaudio formats when there's so much better out there!

Windows Media Player 9 Series. Looks great, is pretty quick, and the taskbar player mode is excellent. I see no need to try others or upgrade to newer versions.

I did play a few audio files in QuickTime earlier today after playing a QT movie in there, but it opened a new windows for each one...annoying.

I haven't posted here before? Anyways, my chain goes

    laptop >> Foobar v0.9.4.2 >> (Asio output) Edirol UA-25 >> RS Tomahawk >> Westone UM2/Sennheiser PX100
    Neglected: Shure E4G, Panasonic HJE50, Sennheiser CX300, Sennhesier MX500

Foobar has the functionality and customisation that I require, bundled in a minimal resource usage package

Windows media player.... it blend nicely with aero... and it is stable, and surprisingly light on resource...

I tried iTunes, it have slower (but not "slow" by any means) start up than WMP. I think iTunes need its own dll files to be uploaded for each start...
