i have a strange problem, but it's annoying me...
i recently installed vista into 2 laptops. both home premium, i had installed all windows updates into both, including service packs and every subsequent updates available from microsoft.
however, one of them, when using the favorites menu, i like to often click links with the scrolling wheel so that the link will open in a new tab.
when i do that, the computer i'm on right now, the favorites menu closes immediately after... this is not a problem on the other computer, when i click something on the favorites menu, it remains open so i can continually open more links in new tabs.
does anybody know what is causing it and how i can stop it from closing by itself upon clicking a link?
(i hope all that made sense)

what is your scroll click function set to in mouse properties?

Please don't say that, you made perfect Sense P A U L.
Your issue is probably with your mouse. Or more specifically, the settings on your mouse. Your mouse probably has some software behind it that sets the 3rd button to do something other than the default.
If all else fails, you could just hold down Ctrl to open a new link. -
ah all else had failed, and i had just reformatted and all seems to work fine upon clean installation.
now i'm checking the favorites menu after each windows update, drivers installation, and software; at least until i get my OS setup to my liking.

i shoulda checked my mouse settings though, or at least test it on the other laptop. and perhaps with another mouse? oh well. lol -
i've narrowed down the source of my problem. the annoyance came back immediately after i installed adobe cs3.
i system restored to before the installation and the problem went away....
weird.
i wonder if it's a particular cs3 software that is causing it... maybe i will install them one by one to see if i can narrow it down further. -
if anyone wants to know, or anybody happens to find this via search engine because you have the same problems as i had, here's the solution.
it was acrobat.
i formatted my laptop, clean installed vista, and checked the favorites menu after every software/driver install.
turned out to be adobe cs3 master collection (good thing this was the first dvd i tried).
then i installed my usual set of software... then started uninstalling things until it turned i hadno longer had the problem after removing ACROBAT 8
