My computer is on the fritz and I want to backup a few files before i restore it. I have three questions.
1) What folder can I copy to recover my e-mails from outlook 2007.
2) I want to copy some hidden folders. How can I access them from the MS-DOS prompt that Vista gives you when you try to repair your system?
3) Can you give me any tips using either xcopy or robocopy to copy my files. I plan to copy them to an external hard drive which is larger than my computer's internal hard drive.
Thanks.

What exactly is the prob/issue with ur comp?
Another suggestion instead of restoring it would be (depending on the prob at hand of course) to slip in the vista dvd, and do a in-place repair / upgrade to get ur system back online.. this will not erase any data or anything.. but still u could back up important stuff, particularly C: and Data and stuff, just to be sure...
As for programs, I would suggest SyncBack..
Btw, which Vista do u have? -
I have Vista Home Premium. I don't know what the exact problem is but it will only boot to the repair menu. I just want to know how to back up files to my external hd. When I boot with the Vista DVD I run start up repair and it can't fix the problem. Would upgrading do anything different?
Still, I really want to know how to back up my Outlook 2007 e-mails. -
for backing up files try syncback.. its pretty fast n nice.. and syncbackSE is free too...
I think you probably are in time for a complete clean install... for backing up your outlook emails, I dont really know, sorry, since I dont use outlook... but have you checked in outlook help or on M$ help pages? there should be something like export or similar, no? well... I dont know. -
Hi Schubatis1 there are a few issues with backing up Outlook information as the information required is located in different places.
I use XP Pro and Outlook 2003.
I found and used this post which provides a step by step process albeit from a number of people, so that you can backup all but the passwords which you will have to enter manually the first time you load Outlook after the reinstall.

Make sure to read all the posts to get a clear understanding of what needs to done and in what order.
Also towards the end they make refereence to using ABF outlook backup application for Outlook 2007, hope this helps...
