    Hi,

i want to zip some files to send in an email. i know i can create split files with winrar/winzip but the people i'm sending the emails to get confused with split archives.

i want to create separate archives so if one volumes is missing, the other files can be accessed and i want to set a cap limit (5MB) per archive.

can this be done with winrar/winzip?

    thanks.

I just had a look in WinRAR - I don't thik it has that option.

But can't you do it manually? As you won't use split archives it can't be one large file.
Images in JPEG are hardly compressed/not compressed, so you can easily estimate which images will give you roughly a 5MB archive.

If its text it get's more complicated, but I believe zipping it will save about 50% on pure text - but no guarantee.

I believe with pure text, winrar can "rawr it" to 10% of its original size.

Anyways.. why don't you upload to somewhere such as megaupload and just give whoever you're e-mailing the link to the download.

Suppose uploaing is what you could do too - Speedshare works too - I used that for pictures I took for the maths group at university.

But: Some people will immediately associate these "services" with piracy - even if there are legitimate uses...
