    I got this problem with Vista file explorer resetting my folder views all the time, even my computer changes from the tiled view to the large icons at random and this is getting very annoying. Also, I can't seem to get folders to open in their own window even with the "classic folders" and "open in own window" settings checked! What is going on?

    I think this is a default "feature" of vista, i don't exactly remember how to fix it but i think you need to get rid of the files that would make it think it's that type of folder. Like it'll make your documents folder a folder for images (and change the icon size and everything) if you have a picture in there. So i suggest you change out what's in your folders.

    If you're so irritated with vista you can use another OS if you want.

    Well, tbh this is the only thing that bothers me about vista and I got everything running so smoothly and just how I like it... *runs away*

    If you go under explorer, tools/options, there is a setting called "remember each folder's view." Check that box and call me in the morning.

    Tools>Folder Options>View... and it was already checked I'm unchecking right now to see if THAT fixes it.

    So, did it fix it, or you crashed your laptop?

    Now what I can't seem to find is how to get Vista to remember the column width in explorer.

    save this text as a *.reg file and execute. It will turn off automatic folder discovery.

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags]

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell]
    "BagMRU Size"=dword:00004e20

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\AllFolders\Shell]
    "FolderType"="NotSpecified"

    Ahh, automatic folder discovery. This forces you to design templates for each type of folder. I guess some people like this kind of stuff.
