Okay I am looking for a good free program to organize my files on my system. Right now I have 3 external HD's and need a program to find all music, video, and other types of files and organize them so I can put I.E. Music on 1 hd, video on 1, etc. Also is there any faster way to copy between drives as some of these music files are taking like 90 minutes to copy from drive to drive..

    Thanks

well, i dont know any programs that are designed for your purposes, but i would take the time to organize it myself. i would search for all the music/video/other media and organize them into folders, move the folders...etc..so this way i know where everything is, in what way is it organized, and i can easily do it again if i had to.

a faster way of copying folders from an external disc, is (if you are using USB) to use firewire (which i dont think is standard on many laptops), RAID0 (which i dont think is applicable here..i dont think you can raid external drives..but that would be cool), or leave as much as you can where it is..

    hope this helps...

Try the free program "xplorer2". It's a 2 pane file manager that is much more efficient than Windows Explorer. I really like it.

Oooooooo, an organizing program better than Windows Explorer? I MUST check this out as I am a freak when it comes to organizing my files and folders.

My files and folders are more organized and clean than my room or anything else I have. :D

I don't know if I can take full credit for this one. I found it by reading this forum. There was either a thread about this subject or I found it in the free software thread.

In any case, I love this program. It makes moving files and folders easier than ever...at least since dosshell or something along those lines.

This Xplorer2 thingy seems a bit like Total Commander (mostly the dual-pane thing), which is a highly enhanced Windows version of Norton Commander - IMO, the best file manager ever, and by far.

You're on the right track. I believe that program was mentioned in the thread I read. The problem was that I either couldn't find the Commander program, or it was a pay program. I use xplorer a lot, but not enough to pay for it...

There's always a great free program around the corner! :)
