Hello I'm looking for a file manager program. The one feature I need is this.

I need it to be able to expand all folders that have files in them, while leaving empty folders un-expanded.

    e.g.:
So, if I have folder A, which has folders 1, 2, and 3. And folders 1, 2, and 3 each have folders a, b, c in them, and there are .pdfs in folder 2b; Folder A will be expanded as will folder 2 and folder 2b.

    Does that make sense?

If the program could toggle back and forth, or maybe some type of control that could be toggles via a hierarchy (Tier 1, Tier 2, etc.) would be great. It does not necessarily need to be free. But I at least need to be able to try it out before purchasing.

    Thanks.

If you are using Vista, you can do something kind of similar in Explorer. Enter just a * in the search box, and then press Alt to get the menu bar, and then do View > Group by > Folder.

You can then "toggle" which folders are expanded by clicking the ^ symbol way to the right of the folder pathname.

I guess that's not exactly as you describe, since it flattens the hierarchy... but since you have it already, it may be worth trying out.

Yes, it needs to be "Tree Style". But I don't want to expand folders that ultimately do not have files in their depths, as I have a collection of 1000+ clients and do not want unnecessary expansions taking up "real-estate"...if you catch my drift.

Unfortunately I'm looking for a solution for Windows XP (should have mentioned that earlier).
