GetDataBack is probably the best software I've used to recover lost files. I had a 500GB hard drive die on me and it had over 200GB of music and 4GB of pictures. It got all of them back. However, I don't think it's free :(

Recuva finds about 247 files and then stops because of an i/o error

    First try Testdisk: http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

If that doesn't recover the necessary files try PhotoRec: http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec

.0 isn't listed in PhotoRec's recovery capabilities, but is still worth a shot if TestDisk doesn't work for you.

The programs listed above by other posters are good as well and also worth a shot. Although I'm not sure how extensive their recovery capabilities are regarding formats. The two I listed are the most comprehensive I've used.

    EDIT:

That being the case you may want to use TestDisk's ability to rebuild/repair the partition table.
