    Hey,

I have put passwords on some of my files before, and I was planning on doing it now, on my new laptop, but I can't find where to do it.

I have a folder named "private"....how do I put a password on it?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks, Dan.

Quick search for "Windows File Encryption" yielded this: http://www.practicalpc.co.uk/computing/windows/xpencrypt1.htm

STFW? Google will tell you everything you want to know.

As an aside, I don't fully trust Windows' file encryption. I'd suggest you use something like TrueCrypt, and have an encrypted volume (stored as a file or whatever). It's open-source, and uses common, verified encryption algorithms with no "back doors". XP's encryption requires a back-door for admins.

If you have Winrar you can always zip the files or file in a folder and then put a password around the zipped.
