Why does it not let me change files in windows and windows\system32? I am an admin, but some of the permissions are not full and they are all greyed out, it is my system I should be able to do what I want, anyone know how to change this?

I have copied all the .dll and .sys files from vista and hoping that I can copy them into the system32 folder of windows 7 but at the moment it says access denied.

I am trying to get my 6 channel audio working because at the moment it is 2 channel and incorrect.

I assume you are logged in to an admin?

P.S. Is it built in 6 channel audio or external?
What are these dlls? I have 6 channel audio in my laptop and would like to know if there is anything I can do to improve the quality.

because you don't OWN the files, the system does (they are in system32, not? :) they belong to the system, thus).

you have to change the owner of the files.

but it's not recomented practise. better uninstall the audio, reinstall, try a different driver, or maybe you just haven't found the special control panel of the driver yet?

you should never need to mess physically with the system32 folder.

@nickc24: as above posters say, you shouldnt mess with windows files, but if you want to.......
unzip this file and merge InstallTakeOwnership.reg to registry. this will give you a 'take ownership' right click option. use it wisely ;)
do i need to explain RemoveTakeOwnership.reg?

    Hi
Yea Its built in 5.1 speakers (acer 8930G). I am having a lot of trouble trying to sort this out and just cannot do it, been 2 days now and I really need to ge back to work but I cannot do tha until I install all my software etc but I cannot do that until I decide to stick with windows 7 or back to visa! Mess!

Basically what I was doing was copying files from system 32 (I went to device manager and got the file locations) onto dvd and then put them into system 32 on windows 7 to see IF it would fix my issue, not got a clue if itwold work.

I know that windows vista 32 bit and 64 bit recognises my sound setup and everything works fine in acer arcade deluxe so that was my thinking.

Everything is working in windows 7 apart from this one thing, which is really weird becaus in windows it gives me the option to choose 5.1 speakers and test them - they work. But in acer arcade deluxe it says 2 channel audio (but in vista it says 6) so maybe it is a software issue, maybe not. Im just lost with it all lol
