The wife is going to kill me if I don't get an answer to this question...

I added another HD to the HTPC today and tried to create a spanned volume in Windows 7 so both drives together would show up as a 4tb D: drive for recording. The drive that was already in there contained nearly 2tb of movies and recorded TV shows. Instead of extending the volume onto the second drive, I created a new spanned volume between the two drives. It didn't exactly warn me that my data would be gone if I did this, but none of the existing files were present on the new spanned drive. Of course, the process of creating the volume only took about a second or so, so I know the data isn't actually gone, but I'm looking for advice on what to use to get it back. I downloaded a data recovery program and it's scanning the drive currently, it looks like it should be done by morning, but does anyone have any other recommendations if it doesn't come through?

And yes, I installed the software on my OS drive, and I'll recover everything to a 2tb external drive I have.

You don't actually need a data recovery program, since the data wasn't erased or overwritten, just the partitions are out of whack.

If whatever you are doing fails or it takes too long, try recovering the partition tables with:

    TestDisk - CGSecurity
