Same for me, but it wasn't able to recover the files. Meh, great program though.

Some files have already been written over by something new but if you're lucky, or just recently deleted the file, it'll find it in a good state.

Just tried that Recuva program. Too bad it didn't find a single file on my external hdd even though none of my files were overwritten just deleted i think.

Files on an external HD aren't stored on it like when you delete something in Windows. They get permanently deleted.

How do the files get stored differently? My external drive has a Western Digital 500gb drive in there, on NTFS. I've seen deleted files from there in my recycle bin too. do things get handled differently because its an external drive? I know for a flash drive things do get erased...

PC World has a list of programs to use to try and undelete files..
    http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/collection/collid,1295-order,1-c,downloads/files.html

currently trying PC Inspector, its finding all my directories...but so far no files...

I think it might be because most external stuff is FAT instead of NTFS, although i wouldn't know for sure.

I think it's just handled differently since it's an external drive.
