I have never experienced such a thing. 5 files (trailers) on my D: in root. It s normal partition on built in HD. Computers in wireless connection. I was playing them on the networked comp. In Windows media player. One of them was HD mov, so I copied it onto that other comp. That was yesterday. Both computers went into hibernate after some time.

Now today I cannot find them in my root D: I even tried undelete and recovery tools - I have few of them - they even found my deleted files from last year! But not these 5 files.

Now I went back to that other comp, where I was watching those trailers yesterday, and guess what - that one file that I copied also vanished. The same thing. Undelete and recovery cannot find it. Restore either! In registry there are paths to those files in some places, so I'm not mad. :) WMP also has it in its history!

Now I don't get it. It is nothing of importance, but I work with computers for a loooong time. I never saw such thing.

I tried google and seems that also some other people have experienced the same things with pictures and movies. I called friend of mine - an expert in computers and he confirmed that he also experienced the similar thing and also with mp3 and movie files.

Everything else is here, and I did a backup of critical things today! :)

Did anybody hear of a such thing?

    Cheers,

Are you watching these files from a networked computer, or are you watching them on the computer they are actually stored on?

Because if you watched it on a network computer, then I had the same exact problem as you. It was very strange, when I went on the networked computer, the files just arent there, but once I go onto the actual computer where the file is actually stored, and its there...I have no idea why it does that tbh.

Yes I was watching them over network (wireless). They disappeared both on that networked computer as well on mine! So even worse than your situation. I tried to recreate the thing, but I couldn't. Those were ICE AGE trailers and MARS canyon fly from official sites, nothing fishy. One of them was in high definition, so I made a divx using AVIVO encoder. It also vanished.

I guess backup is the only way of dealing with this. Really strange. Godd knowing that I am not mad. These things happen.

    Cheers,

    Ivan

I have absolutely no idea so I'm just guessing here.

I also watch movies over the network and copy files frequently but I have never had a problem. Could turning off hibernation help?

Also, if you can afford it, give the laptop full control over the shares and hopefully it wont murder the files.(I once tried a batch renaming program to rename and move my files to my desktop from my laptop... for a folder full of pictures.... and I have never seen them since. :( )
