Any suggestions for easy-to-use, affordable film editing software for a newbie filmmaker? I've used Mac's iMovie before but have a PC laptop now. Has anyone tried the editing program that comes with Windows... I think it is called MovieMaker?

Give Sony's Vegas Movie Studio+DVD @ $90 a try. Like its bigger brother Sony Vegas..it has a ton of features and is genuinely easy to use and effectively hides complexities from the user.

What I like is that the interface is not like a fruity gui as some other home-editing programs have (you know what I mean!) and dumbed-down and allows for very good editing experience.

Afer editing your movies, you can also design a DVD (menus and all) and burn off a very prefessional looking home movie.

I'd also go for Vegas Movie Studio or Adobe Premiere Elements. Both are excellent packages, and you can step up to the full Pro editions if you outgrow them.

Windows Moviemaker is a very simple program... unless you're only planning basic home movie type work, you'll soon outgrow it.

The previous suggestions are good. Windows Movie Maker is inferior to Apple's iMovie. The best PC video editing software that are "reasonable" are Adobe Premiere, Sony's Vegas Studio, and Pinnacle Studio. I haven't followed Pinnacle's latest versions of its movie editing software, so I can't really tell you if they've improved along with the industry.

Any pros/cons for Sony's Vegas Movie Studio or Adobe Premiere Elements?
