We (and by we, I mean I) are looking for bookkeeping software that can interface with Google drive (or the like), so 3 of us can make changes and stuff and have the program update the database file(s) automatically so we don't have to keep sharing excel spreadsheets. 3 is ridiculous, 6 is downright maddening. It doesn't have to be a super-duper enterprise grade application, like if Quickbooks has a lite version that does cloud storage interface, that'd be fine and dandy.

    (Oh, and for Windows ;))

Wasn't Google cloud to use excel between parties and they can edit and make changes but the original never gets touched and that is could storage where those in the group can discussion and edit changes as needed?? What your asking seems to be what Google offers already it can integrate with M$ Excel as that is what Google Cloud computing is already???? Or did I miss the boat?

Right now, I'm just wanting to see if such an application even exists.

I'll have to look it up (thought Quicken and Quickbooks were one in the same)

Google offers Google spreadsheets. But half the issue is we don't want to have to sit there and add in new entries and reapply the formulas. Very tedious.

OneDrive also should work. You make the file editable so your recipient can edit it. That's Microsoft version of the cloud so it should work better then Google Docs for Excel files. OneDrive has a sharing feature that should work for you.

The idea is to just enter the check/transaction amount and details into the software and have it perform the running total(s). It's not like we can't get a spreadsheet to do all that, but it gets to be tedious. I just figured there was a better way (software wise) to do it. Quicken does not look easy to use in it's starter version. But I could be wrong.

Quicken is probably the easiest of all financial software to use. It's just like entering a check in your checkbook register. When you write a check you enter the payee, amount and date. It's done. Of course you have to set it up first but they walk you through that so it's a step by step process.

you will be dealing with database file locks etc. the best option I know of ( and have actually helped install ) was Sage 50 ( aka Simply Accounting ) BUT you need to setup your own server accessible by VPN, RDP or terminal services.

they easily set it up with a server at main office, there are 8 or 9 who access it internally, and then 4 more stores access remote by a nice fast VPN and their outside sales people and upper management go in by RDP

if you are only dealing with a small user base and small data files, I would think most any network enabled accounting package should work if you setup VPN access through your router or even something as basic as teamviewer VPN or the SoftEther VPN Project.

if you have a bigger budget just whip up a copy of server 2008 and run terminal services and have an RDP login for each user and then they don't even need it locally installed on their system, and if someone leaves and no longer needs access the admin can just do a user/password change.

if any of this helps send me a PM and I can have my husband ( Crazycanuk here on NBR ) try to walk you through a few options.

Update: I am not sure if it still exists but there used to be some software that would use a WebDAV server for remote locations and a polling update, not realtime though.

How would you rate it's useability. Scale of 1-10

1 being weapons-grade retard friendly, 10 being necessary to have an NBR veteran set it up.

I ask because my aunt is very capable on the computer, but she gets frustrated easily.

wont work, it is cloud sync but NOT multiuser. I am sure radji is looking into something that more than one person can use at once .... but I may be wrong.

OK may have to re look at that program, Last I had heard only one user could deal with it at a time and it wouldn't sync transactions. Time to go reading again.

    Update: your right !!!
    http://forum.youneedabudget.com/discussion/16331/with-the-cloud-sync-feature-multi-user-friendly

I would say now to see if it does all the accounting features that are needed. looks more like a budgeter and basic package.

You are correct KCETech. But we don't need it to be to overly complicated. It's for my aunt, uncle, and I to manage my late grandpa's trust accounts with. We can transfer money between the accounts via each banks website, but we want the financial software to manage it all. The catch 22 is since its 3 of us doing all this, I'm wanting the software to sync via the cloud so we don't have to use the same computer for all this or have to download and update a bunch of spreadsheets from Google docs.

Downloaded the trial and set it up. Very easy for me to use. Should be good for my relatives as well.

Love the dropbox integration. +1 Rep!
