I'm trying super hard to figure out how to replace the tray "arrow" icon that shows your hidden tray icons.

I've gone into ResourceHacker and am trying to locate this icon to replace it with a blank .ico file to make this button invisible.

Does anyone have any info on how I could make this tray icon invisible (i.e. blank)?

    I'm going for this look:
    Capture.jpg

    Thanks!

    Windows version?

Are you trying to HIDE the system tray, or just the chevron that reveals the hidden icons?

Not trying to hide/remove it, just did that for example in the picture of how I want it to look after I hide it.

All I'm looking for is the file and icon number of the icon in resource hacker so I can change the image.

I only bring it up because if you customize the system tray notification area to SHOW ALL INACTIVE icons, and then set each individual icon to NOT SHOW ICON OR NOTIFICATIONs, it will disappear (i think)

I tried getting that and it still shows the arrow. That sounds like a good idea, but how do I do it?

Forget it--that idea was going nowhere....how about this

Start > type in the search box
    gpedit.msc
    ENTER

In the local group policy editor that appears, click USER CONFIGURATION > ADMINSITRATIVE TEMPLATES > START MENU AND TASKBAR

    Find
HIDE THE NOTIFICATION AREA in the right pane

Double click it, set it to ENABLED.

Click APPLY, close the policy editor, reboot.

Thanks for the help, but doesn't that just disable it completely like I've already done via a program? I'd like it to still function but just look hidden by making a blank .ico icon to click.

from what I know you cannot just replace it with a blank.ico. you will need a graphic similar to the start orbs but it will be for the menu button. I have mine replaced with a dot. though this was done by modifying the explorer.exe and installing theme files.

    heres what mine looks like.

I think you should try to find the person that made that theme. I think i also saw that on deviantart.

Where did you modify the explorer file? I just went through it with resource hacker and I do not see the arrow icon in there anywhere.

Hmmm, so maybe in the theme itself or in a modified explorer.exe. The theme I'm using is called Shine 2.0 by zainadeel.
