    Hey there

I've installed the 64 bit version of Win7 RC on my Asus M70Vm and I'm having a bit of a problem with the fingerprint scanner not working.

I don't recall if it worked or not in the beta version but that was the 32bit version so I'm not sure that matters.

Anyway I have installed the Asus security protect manager app and the authentec drivers for Vista 32 bit (because I can't find any others) and device manager shows the device working ok but the Asus security protect manager app isn't giving me the option to register my prints. :(

Would anyone out there know how to get this to work on Win 7?

Thanks in advance for any help on this. :)

Have you tried the Windows 7 RC software from Upek? www.upek.com

Works brilliantly with my Dell M1530

Umm they don't appear to have it for Asus for Vista 64. It's XP only from the looks of it for Asus machines.

As far as I know - it doesn't matter. If Upek make the fingerprint reader then the Windows 7 drivers should work

Ah ok. I solved it anyway.

I deleted all traces of the Authentec drivers in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (X86) and uninstalled the Asus security manager app and then uninstalled fingerprint scanner in device manager and let device manager scan for hardware and install the device again.

It seems there is a driver bundled with W7 RC for Authentec fingerprint scanners and an app as well that allows logon via fingerprint (which is what I wanted) so there isn't any need for the Asus security manager app.

Do have a problem with being able to log my prints though, so far I've only been able to log one of my fingers, but I think my prints could be dodgy and/or the scanner is a bit crap. :D

Other than the issue of logging my prints the logon via fingerprints works fine now.

Thanks for the advice though. :)

i ran into some similar problems on my c90s after installing windows 7. the reason why you can only register 1 finger is because your ancient configuration is still in the scanner's internal memory. you have an option somewhere i think to add or remove fingerprints in your software. just delete the old entries and redo your fingerprints. can't explain it very well since I'm french, but that's what i found. also, when you install your reader's drivers from your cd, you'll notice you have 2 version of the driver that's compatible. they both say the device's working, but only 1 of the 2 will actually work. the one with no logo as you mentioned.
