FireFox seemed to run very well on my desktop (Athlon 64+ 2.16 ghz, 512mb, Windows XP SP2), but on my laptop (specs in sig) it seems to have a problem.

Orginally I thought it was a problem with version 3.0.3 so I downgraded to 2.0.0.17. While this reduced the amount of hangs they're still quite frequent.

I've been using Chrome beta (0.3.154.9) and Opera when I can but I like Firefox's mainstream compatibility (need it for things like online class) and I'd prefer to not have to use IE.

Anyone have any idea? Is it Firefox or is it Vista x64?

I googled it but didn't really find much that would help.

Does it crash when you visit a particular website? Or is the crashing totally random?

It is neither. I recommend a clean re-installation of Firefox, starting it out without any extensions, then checking it as you add extensions.

    Side question:
. did the hanging occur on wireless or direct connections; or both?

    cheers ...

Try what ghn said, but also uninstall Flash and start clean with it as well.

Make sure to re-boot between uninstalls and re-installs.

I don't have any extensions besieds one theme, which I don't even use, and DOM inspector.

It happens on a wireless connection but it's not the wireless since it has happened on wired connection aswell.

idk though doesn't all pages have some sort of flash on it with all the ads and whatnot?

I've been having an issue similar to this...nearly every time I turn on Firefox after sleep mode in Vista 64 bit, it hangs and doesn't even turn on. However, I concluded this is a Vista issue and not Firefox because a few other programs give me the same results immediately after sleep mode. Interestingly enough, IE 64-bit actually turns on during this time - but hands immediately after lol
