Wow... I was looking through the fixes for all the security updates... most of the more serious vulnerabilities have to do with Javascript.
I know, just apply the updates... but I guess I didn't realize just how dangerous Javascript is compared to the rest of the web browser.

NoScript is an awesome extension to Firefox because of that reason.

A lot of Firefox is built off of JavaScript so if they make some changes to JavaScript it's huge. Guess where some of the massive speed improvements some fro min Firefox 3? Improvements to the java script coding that hold Firefox together.

Why still use Fx2? Version 3 beta 4 is much nicer and seems pretty stable.

So it automatically updates on my desktop while I had to 'Check for Updates' on my laptop. *sigh* Mozilla really hates me :( lol

While "beta" isn't necessarily bad [GMail, web services in general], it's just different when it comes to software, IMO. I'm no developer anyway and I probably can't help 'em find a bug or two so I don't even bother with "beta" stage software. :D And in the case of Firefox, I don't use Vista so I can't really enjoy the new look much, can I?

BTW, Opera sucks. lol kidding kidding! Just noticed that when Safari was the topic, Firefox love would somehow get sneaked into the thread. And now, Firefox is the topic, we have some Opera love going on. lol :p

On your desktop? no. If you have your FF browser open for a bit, it will notify you of the new version. going to check for updates is faster anyways.

Yeah, when I was using FF on my laptop, it was running and didn't close it once until I found this thread, so I manually updated. On my desktop, closing then opening FF again did the trick ;)

Wow... Just like IE can do out of the box. ;)

This does seem like a good FF add-on though.

Unfortunately, Javascript is practically required to browse the web these days, with more and more AJAX sites around.

Too bad it doesn't appear to block Flash though. There are so many sites with annoying Flash ads... but just enough sites that use Flash in a good way to make me keep it around.

One of the best, and most popular Firefox addons is AdBlock Plus. It gets rid of ads in page but i noticed it doesn't do such a good job with flash, in fact, breaking flash on some websites. I think I'll keep it disabled until that issue gets fixed.

Firefox just updated to 2.0.0.13 and none of my add-ons work anymore. Does anybody else have this problem?

EDIT: nvm I just restarted Firefox again and my addons work fine now. Weird that they didn't work the first time...

Thanks... I installed this immediately after I read this... cool!

Too bad it can't show the flash as a still image (first frame) to help me decide whether to play it or not. Still, I like it.

EDIT: LOL, it even blocks NBR's ads... I love it!

    Good point.

I didn't really mean to block NBR's ads... it's sort of a nice side-effect... so many sites now have ads that fly around the screen, cover up the article text... some have audio that plays automatically... ugh ugh.

I don't see why NBR ads use flash anyway... I assumed they were just animated GIFs since they don't do anything extremely obnoxious. Flash is a good technology, but unfortunately a lot of sites have abused it so much I just have to block it. Oh well.

I could whitelist NBR so I see flash ads here and not on other sites, but... I have a feeling I won't. ;)

I notice you've recently taken a liking to nit-picking on peoples languages. Like "analysing" in Defraggler, which is a British word. And "cheers..." by qhn which i think might be British too....

I used to work with a bunch of Australians and a lot of them would say "Cheers" a lot and also sign emails with that. I even started doing it myself occasionally.

    Cheers. ;)

Well I assumed Piriform would spell things correctly on their software, even it is British. This is far from nit-picking languages. Just simple observations...;p

So, I'm having issues with firefox.

Firefox is broken since I updated to version 2.0.0.13.

When I updated it, the next time I opened it, none of my extensions were working. Whenever I tried to open it, it was fine until I tried to do something. Then it would shut down immediately (and act as if it were still working so I couldn't restart it until I restarted my computer).

Eventually I figured out how to delete its memory of the extensions so it would reload them when I opened it again.

So, although the speeddial (my favorite extension) doesn't seem to be compatible, I can now open it with all of my other extensions working.

But I still have the problem of whenever I try to do something, it hangs until I shut it. Then, about 10 minutes later, it says firefox is having problems and must be shut down. Then I can begin the process again.

Although Opera isn't that great, I have no problem using it if I can't get firefox working again (since there's no way I know of to have a clean install; I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling it).

If anyone knows why my firefox is having a breakdown after installing a security hole-fixing update, please let me know ([email protected]).
