Guys, u might surely wanna read this.....
NEW YORK: A new version of the Firefox browser, now available for testing mainly by developers, offers improvements on finding frequently visited websites and tools for running Web applications without a live Internet connection.
The Beta 1 version of Firefox 3 released this week still has problems, including the inability to run newer Web-mail programmes from Yahoo Inc and Microsoft Corp, and a final version for consumers isn't expected for several months.
But it offers a window on what's to come. Many of its new features concern bookmarks, an area typically slow to change in the browsing world. One can now add keywords, or tags, to sort bookmarks by topic.
And a new “Places” feature lets quickly access sites recently bookmarked or tagged and pages you visit frequently but haven't bookmarked.
There's also a new star button for easily adding sites to your bookmark list -- similar to what's already available on Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7 browser.
Offline Web support -- for example, letting you compose Web mail while offline to send after you're back online -- is bound to come in handy as more software developers design programmes to be run completely over the Internet, eliminating installation complexities.
But Web developers must add the Firefox offline functionality to their sites, so the usefulness of this feature will be limited at first.
Other new features include the ability to resume downloads midway if the connection is interrupted and an updated password manager that doesn't disrupt the log-in process.
Versions for Windows, Mac and Linux computers were released by Mozilla, an open-source community in which thousands of people collectively develop free products, mostly as volunteers

is it killer app or killed app?
-
Opera 9.5b is a killer app
Faster than Firefox! -
The last killer app was...??
-
I've been using the beta.
And Opera! And Safari! Different browser depending on my mood!
-
I tried firefox
I liked it
One day it decided to destroy my bookmark
I switched back to IE6
IE7 was released
I love IE7 -
Agreed. Wouldn't use anything over IE7.
-
I don't use it all that much but it does seem faster than FF
-
I don't touch IE7 even with a very long stick. Its slow and clunky.
-
IE7 opens fast but crashes faster....so i stick to anything other than IE7...i use IE7 only i want to find a word definition..haha
-
I don't understand what all the fuss about a "fast" browser is. So what, Apple release a browser that was 5x's faster (or whatever it was) than all the other browsers...or so & so optimzed their browser for speed...
When it takes less than second to load a webpage, who cares if it takes less than a second divided by 5?
That's like running around tootin' my horn b/c i moved my mail box from 2 feet from my doorstep, to a few inches...is it really going to matter in the end?
I think that security, stability, and feature-set/customizability should be higher up on the ranks. -
I love IE6 SP2. I like how it's full screen mode auto hides both the menu bar at the top and the task bar at the bottom. The auto hide task bar feature was lost with IE7, locking the user out of access to the rest of the computer unless the user either minimizes the window or switches out of full screen mode. I was disappointed. The search box and tabs are nice improvements, but I still miss IE6 SP2's full screen mode. Earlier versions had it too, but without a popup blocker IE was pretty much useless. Not to mention, disabling web content often meant constant alerts that needed to be acknowledged before the user could continue browsing.

lolifox kthxbai
[It's firefox, but cooler] -
Yeah well...
For me it can be 7 secs for a page to load fully with FF and 1 second with IE. Launching can take 20 seconds or more with FF and 1 with IE. -
I use IE7 daily on my Vista machine with no problem. It's fast, reliable, secure and stable.
I used firefox 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 for a time, but It was never more secure than IE. When Microsoft launched IE7, I decided to uninstall the buggy Firefox 2.0. -
Opera is kinda meh in my opinion...I tried it for a while...it opens faster than FF, but it's far less functional for my purposes. Far fewer useful extensions/plugins, for sure.
-
Forget lolifox, Original Firefox ktanxbi.
-
lolifox has direct links to ANN [AnimeNewsNetwork]; Anidb; Datorrents; Hongfire and more. Instant win, kthnxbai. It has the hawtest startpage too. And once you set your homepage to miezaru, you're all set. FF requires more work to get that setup. Also, FF doesn't come with ABP pre-installed. So boo.
Lolifox kthnxbai. -
IE isn't a browser. A browser would be able to understand the technologies that have been used on webpages for the last 10 years.
At best, IE is a plague on the web, and one we'd be better off without.
Personally I'd consider using IE to be a criminal offense.
If you can lose your license for driving in the wrong side of the road, you should lose your internet connection for using IE.
Not true. IE is not more secure as a "browser" (ignoring the fact that it isn't a browser in the first place).
That doesn't depend on your personal experiences, but on how many exploits exist, how fast vulnerabilities are fixed and so on. IE is *not* more secure.
Oooh, the one that.... works exactly like Firefox's fullscreen mode? How fancy. -
I'll definately bite on this, hoping you are right. Which version?
-
Fullerscreen...
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4650 -
i love Firefox... cant wait for FF 3
-
Hiker,
Do you know if Fullerscreen autohides the Windows taskbar too?
I did a Google search for "firefox full screen" and it came up with an add-on called Autohide, which apparently does autohide both Firefox's menu bars and the Windows taskbar when in full screen mode. But Autohide isn't available through Firefox's site. It makes me leary. -
Yes, it does. It's a little buggy though, or seems so with the screen popping back and forth when you move the cursor to the top and bottom. Sometimes the status bar will stay on. It's weird having so much space! -
I just gave it a shot too. Buggy is right.
It autohides the menu bars but I couldn't get it to autohide Windows taskbar. The taskbar disappears but wont come up when the cursur is moved to the bottom edge of the screen. Instead, the status bar pops up. Window jumps all over hell.
The author of that one needs to do some more work.

I've used FF for years off and on. Right now my favorite is Slimbrowser which runs on the IE7 Trident Engine, and uses standard Vista folders, etc., so a change in SB is a change in IE. It has 156 skins at the moment, and many many power options. Seems to work with my Spysweeper. Pretty nice app.
-
Hey Jalf, I don't use IE7 per se, but can you link us to a web page IE7 won't run properly?
-
FF all the way...I only use IE7 if I have to......i never noticed it to be more slow than FF or vice versa...I just like the customization that FF has and the fact that it saves all your tabs that were open after a restart...you can't beat that...i always have around 10 tabs open...one dedicated to email, one to facebook, etc.
-
Same here, I have Slimbrowser configured that way.
-
I also love how it saves all of your data, even after a restart. For example, let's say you were half way done writing an email in your online email and your computer froze or something. After a restart, all the text will even be there.
I also like it when I am reading through websites with a lot of text. I hate going back to the site and trying to figure out where I left of....firefox even remembers what portion of the webpage you were on
due to these reasons, FF is priceless -
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Meh, I was using IE6 without any problems 'til just a few months ago when it started frequently giving me random crashes. FF is slower but for now I'd rather have the stability.
-
version? been around for long time
all u have to do is click on View tab and choose Full View, no addon, no extension. Play with it, F11 is the key, use minimize when in trouble
cheers ... -
exactly..just do as qhn said...i was wondering why people were bringing up add ons for this
-
the restore session is the best feature of FF...other advantages are numerous skins & add-ons... IE7 as i said..i use it only when i want to do a quick n short search that ...i dont depend on IE7 for longer usage as it stops responding.
FF is the best combination... Opera i have a small problem..whenever i open a new tab, the window shifts to new tab..how to solve this problem? i dont want it to automatically open the new tab window unless i click on it -
i suggest that u make this a new thread, this will get more inputs from Opera users. The title of this current thread would chase away many of potential Opera "gurus"
cheers ... -
It has a full screen view, but it doesn't autohide the menu and task bar when in full screen. By autohide, I mean they popup when the mouse is brought to the edge of the screen.
Firefox is a nice browser. I wish it had this feature. IE has even lost it with IE7 (Taskbar no longer autohides in full screen). So I have since gone back to IE6 SP2. -
Bill Gates couldn't PERSONALLY get me to switch back to IE6/IE7, hell IE40...
That program there has SEVERE issues..
Firefox has did me well the past year and a half...
I'll stick with what's working FOR ME! -
someone in the german ff users area has this
http://www.krickelkrackel.de/autohide/autohide.htm
play with it and see if that is what u need
cheers ... -
The taskbar disappears when I use full screen with IE7. The problem is it won't come back when I move the cursor over it. I need to click the full screen button again for that.
-
Yeah, that's the same thing with me in IE7. Opera, Firefox, and now IE7 prevent access to the taskbar in full screen mode. It's a small feature, but one I really notice when it's gone. I have come to really like having nothing but the web page visable when browsing. IE's, before IE7, full screen implementation is unmatched as far as user friendliness.
There is one feature that Firefox has that I wish IE and Opera had, and that's its auto deletion feature at exit. IE will only empty the cache and Opera will only empty the cache and cookies. Firefox, though, can be configured to delete all stored data.
Actually, throw Firefox's emtpy at exit features and Opera's custom button features into IE6 SP2's clean and fast page rendering and full screen mode. That'd be real nice. -
I did find that with Google, but it doesn't come up at Firefox's add-on pages. I was leary of it. Do you know anyone using it?
-
i do know many peoples using it. But with Minefield and FF3, this addon must be modified to satisfy the security requirement, since it will be rejected for installation. I can vow for this on Minefield testing at the moment.
cheers ... -
u can set IE to empty temp/cache at exit. Do not know about Opera 9.2 but current 9.5beta allows users to empty cache/histories/cookies upon exit as well
current Minefield offers the drag link onto ur toolbar (as in Opera 9.5beta behaviour), not sure is this what u meant
this can be discussed, at warm load (meaning caching already in memory), ff and opera can kick IE6 SP2 many time over. Cold start browser, due to the IE6 being part of the m$ kernel, there is no clean/real competition here
cheers ... -
Got a toggle script button. Autohide works fantastic, just like IE. Just need a way to use bookmarks the same way they work in the menu bar, but from the fullscreen navigation bar.
Multi post all fixed.
-
you have to stop quadruple posting...just use the edit button and add on to your last post
-
Wow, didn't notice that. Yeah dude, just edit.
-
Thanks tranquility..I didn't mean to be harsh...just giving you a head's up b/c mods frown upon it along with everyone else that is subscribed to this thread
-
in firefox u can add the bookmark button to the navigation bar:
- right click on navigation bar, then customize,
- drag the bookmark button onto the bar
so u've been "multi" duplicate posting? how do u keep track of inputs? might loose many inputs with "multi" posting, since u would confuse ur posts readers to as which post/thread of urs was serious
cheers ... -
Killer or no killer, i m still stickin to em...
open source makes me happy -
Open source should always be there..imagine a world without open source..
Btw FF 3 has some cool new bookmark labelling features...anyone knows more about it?
Firefox 3 .... killer app?
