    http://blog.pavlov.net/2008/03/11/firefox-3-memory-usage/

"While Firefox 2 used less memory than it's predecessor, Firefox 1.5, we intentionally restricted the number of changes to the Gecko platform (Gecko 1.8.1 was only slightly different than Gecko 1.8) on which Firefox was built. However, while the majority of people were working on Firefox 2/Gecko 1.8.1, others of us were already ripping into the platform that Firefox 3 was to be built on: Gecko 1.9. We've made more significant changes to the platform than I can count, including many to reduce our memory footprint. The result has been dramatic."

    Awesome.

I think the one thing that sort of sucks is not being able to run CCleaner while Firefox is open. :(

I don't really see the improvements while using few tabs, but with 18 or so it takes 140MB of RAM. Kinda useless.

So are you saying that with 18 tabs, it's better than with a few, or just that either way it's not much better?

I'm not sure what I'm saying anymore.
I think that I'm saying it's the same as it was with Firefox 2, but it seems to free up RAM. I don't really have much trust into their programming skills. But I like the way it looks. One thing that annoys me is that the guy that makes the default theme is surely underpaid, because the theme...could be largely improved (not some IE copy, but a better color scheme and finish could help).

I have confirmed that Firefox is using a lot less memory than before. When opening and closing tabs it uses up a lot less RAM than the last version. It's bound to get better by the final too. Also Fade To Black, if you hate it that much, use another theme.

Yeah, I can see the improvements when many tabs are opened at once.
About the theme...I can't really use another one, as the ones I like don't work at all (even if I make them compatible they are not working properly).

Many themes nowadays are updating their compatibility for the latest Firefox version. The most popular are already updated for use with Firefox beta 5pre.

I know, but I don't care right now about any theme. I can live with what I get for now. I know the default will get slightly changed and I know the developers of the themes don't want to make them compatible every time a new version comes out. So I just move on to more important stuff, like bugs.

They have "integrated" the theme into the OS, so maybe you'll like it.

The theme for beta 4 looks cooler than before and I quite like it in a way, except for the yellow and that shade of blue.

I don't see any yellow in beta 5pre, and the shade of blue looks fine to me. they didn't want it too dark as people with vision problems couldn't see it correctly, same thing for doing it too light.

Besides, you can make an FF2 or 1 theme if you hate the new one that bad :p

Calvin, I'm using beta 4, not the preview for the 5. And in this one the RSS feeds have an yellow icon. Anyway...pointless.

I have to heavily doubt that chart. I use IE 7 regularly and it gets no where near 300mb of RAM, even with tons of tabs open and just sitting there.

I dunno if you guys have noticed this but FF is a CPU hog.

Ive been averagely testing FF and IE for the past week and when surfing with FF i get up to 58c core temps. When i use IE it doesnt even go past 48 even with more tabs open and actively used

and this is when FF is on the background (unactively used) the same time!

When scrolling on FF i can see my temps slowly going up already and when i open or switch to more tabs it goes even higher.

IE doesnt seem to do this, i was suprised and actually considering uninstalling firefox.

I know it utilizes too much CPU, but I am not sure how that can be prevented.

The only way any program can use too much of any resource (e.g.: CPU; Memory; Disk; Network) is if it wants more than is there or if it is conflicting with another program that is also attempting to run simultaneously.

I haven't experienced any Memory hikes while using FF3, but that might be because damn near all of my add-ons don't work with FF3 even when I use Nightly tester. So I'm back using FF2.

I used to have a ton of addons with Firefox 2 because i needed them to get proper functionality. Now, with Firefox 3, i only need Adblock Plus.

    RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin
    (to download flash in stuff)
MouseZoom (to zoom in/out on the fly with my mouse)
Download Statusbar (Much better download viewer than the annoying popup viewer)
    And ofcourse Adblock plus.

I can tell you that Adblock Plus is compatible with the latest minefield, not sure about the others but I'm sure there are alternatives out there.

Not for vista users, you don't need to open IE to update anymore. Also, for Firefox 3, Fasterfox isn't needed for awesome speeds.

Well I use IETAB on FF with Vista, because for some odd reason, I can't watch Windows Media Player Vids on there(Ex:nba.com)I DLed the plugin but still doesn't work, so that's why I use it. Even if FF3 was compatible with FasterFox, I would add it, couldn't hurt.
