Firefox 3 beta 5 is available for download.
Download Release Notes
-
I'm anxiously holding off for the final build.
-
Minefield is pretty stable and it's the development build so I'm sure Firefox 3 beta 5 will be very stable as it goes through more quality assurance testing to be usable for everyday browsing.
-
I've been using Beta 4 with only a few noticeable bugs. It's getting very close.
-
I've been using the firefox 3 beta 4 version... is it gonna update to the 5 beta by itself or should I dl the newer version and uninstall this one?

Or you can always go to Help>Check for Updates... if you're impatient.
-
I don't think it works in the Beta/Alphas.
-
-
Never worked for me????????????????
-
- must always download the update manually. A re.install, may be?
cheers ... -

-
u might want to save ur bookmarks and perform a complete uninstall. And then reinstall

I'll try that later but I'm not to worried.

Somebody keeping track of SP3 right?? -
AdBlock Plus is not compatible with beta5 (!) I upgraded my machine at work to FF3beta5. The install disables AdBlock, and a search on MozillaZine's forums confirm that at least for now, ABP isn't compatible. For me this is a critical "not ready for prime time" issue.
You can disable compatibility-checking for extensions and then install a developmental release of ABP and it'll work fine... but for me that's too much trouble. -
I didn't really want to bog down my first post with warnings left and right, also, this is only to be used for developmental reasons as stated by Mozilla, so you can't complain about it until Firefox 3 is officially out.
-
-
Thx for the heads-up, though.
[edit]
if you want to play with FF3beta5 and still want to squash ads, you can install the most recent development build of AdBlock Plus and add a line to about:config which disables its checking of extension compatibility [extensions.checkCompatibility=false]
Works like a charm. -
Does anyone find the new address bar/url annoying? Is there a way to change it back to the old way?
-
ya i think its too big
-
I like the new url bar for many reasons, even when i was testing Opera a little earlier i preferred the Firefox url bar to Opera's. Though I'm sure someone will come out with some sort of hack to "fix" this. You should wait, and get used to it, it's got many good qualities that I'm sure you'll grow to love.

Upgraded to Beta 5 from Beta 4. Found the interface to be a little slicker, but the browser is less stable, and it broke a bunch of my plugins that were fine on Beta 4; I reenabled some through settings in about:config, but still had some issues. Reinstalled Beta 4.
B4 is relatively stable on my machine, fast, and much lighter on memory than FF 2.x. -

Kind of disappointing for a 5th beta, especially with a RC1 apparently in the wings.
Not so much the Firefox components; rather, the add-on and themes.
Quite a few of the more mainstream ones are not compatible yet. -
FF3 by itself, without extensions, works great, and the extensions will come in time. -

I believe that my statement was entirely fair.
I never said it was a problem with Firefox. -
AdBlock Plus and Download Statusbar work fine with FF3B5, so no complaints here.

when I type 'x' in my address bar, it means I want to go to a website that starts with 'x'. (xkcd.com)
I don't mind if it suggests others that *include an x in the page title* somewhere on the list, but the *first* results should be the ones that match the url.
However, what I actually get is the following:
- Youtube videos which happen to have an 'x' somewhere in the movie id. That is completely random noise that I can't use for *anything*. I didn't know they had an x in them, the x has no meaning there, it should not be suggested.
- If I type 'the' (theinquirer.net), what do you think it suggests first? Not pages whose url starts with 'the', but pages whose title starts with 'the'. And the very first one? A website that was down two weeks ago, which means that Firefox gave it the title 'The page is not available', and remembered that.
No thanks, if I could, I'd stick with the old bar.
It beats me how junk like this got past the developers. They're usually good at only adding features that actually work. -
Actually I'm pretty sure it's better than it's implemented this way, as a fellow programmer I'm sure you should understand this, although it's okay to complain about this. If you don't like it, there's an addon to make it go back to the old style.
-
For instance, I love that it searches through your bookmarks. This feature is very useful.
However, when I type in "a", I'm usually wanting to navigate to amazon.com (I visit there frequently). However, the first choices are "f acebook.com" (there are a few of these) because there is an "a" in facebook, and "notebookreview.com" because the page title is "Notebook and Laptop Reviews".
Again, it's a step in the right direction, but there are definitely kinks that need to be worked out. -
(And not sure what you mean with the first part.) -
What i meant in the first part was that there are many things they have to worry about when making the feature, and making it this way was the best possible way, at least to the current developers. If you'd like it's open source so if you don't like it, change it, make it better for everyone.

This is definitely faster than FF2, it just seems snappier viewing web pages now.
