I've been using Firefox 3 in beta for while now. In beta 5 however, I've experienced freezes that have never happened before. After using for a few minutes, Firefox would suddently stop loading any pages. Upon quitting firefox, the process would still show up in processes in task manager. IE7 continues to work while Firefox is down, so it proves that my internet connection is still good.

Is anyone else experiencing problems with FF3?

Firefox 3 is currently a beta web browser. Problems are to be expected, as it is for testing purposes only. Although, i suggest you try out the "live" Firefox 3 beta "Minefield" to see if it alleviates the problem.

I am using 20014 and it must crash a dozen times a day, every day.

And the previous versions did the same.

I have re-formated a couple of time for other reasons, but it still crashes.

I send a report to mozila at every crash.

If their was a better alternative i would jump on it, but i hate IE.

    Regards

    John.

If the latest stable is giving you problems i think it would be best to try out the beta's, it may just be the type of website you're trying to view doesn't work well with that version.

What extensions do you have installed? (And have you tried running Firefox without them?)

And if it runs that badly for you, you might want to consider Opera or Safari. ;)

^^Though Safari on a Mac is definitely better. ;)

Don't install version 2.0.0.14. I had switched from Beta 5 to that (since it was newer) and the damn thing was crashing or causing issues every time I opened it. IE7 wasn't a good alternative since I must have screwed that up.

And Firefox is waaaaayyyyyyyy better. Yeah. Right. IMO all web browsers suck. Some more or less than others in different areas, but they all have their problems. Surprisingly the only browser that I'm even halfway happy with right now is Konqueror, which I used to hate until the latest version of KDE.
And if you're one of the people using FF 3b5 and you're worried about stability, the solution is simple - don't use beta software. And if you're just testing it, why aren't you posting this to Bugzilla instead of NBR so the people who write the software can actually fix the problem before it goes final? Like a man once said, if you're not part of the solution you're part of the probelm.

I have had pretty much same experience. I notice that Firefox will not fully shut down (still be in background processes) if I closed the browser when it was loading plug-in like QuickTime, WMP, flash or when it was using 100% CPU. Solution is to let Firefox finish whatever it is doing.

I like Opera's stability, also Safari's UI is very nice, but nothing, at this time, could beat Firefox's usability.

    Hi.

It use to crash more, until i read on the mozila website, about firefox not like processor virtualization, mozila recomends you turn on Xp sp2 compatibility mode.

I am tuning of all plugins and see what happens.

    Regards

    John.

Yup, some more info would be good. :)

FWIW I haven't had any problems with FF3B5 crashing. My only extension is ABP.

Simple, if nobody uses the beta then we'll end up with a shoddy, unfinished and buggy final version

You've posted several times about how the stable Firefox 2 crashes on you and i keep on recommending that you try the beta to see if it solves anything and i haven't seen you reply to those posts. Have you tried it?

I tried it a few days ago, but it was not compatabile with my plugins.

as i use google toolbar for the spell check.

I have just installed the beta again, and will give it a go.

My spelling is going to suffer, and it`s your fault

    John.

I suspect it's some of your plugins causing the crashes. That's the only thing that can explain why it crashes so much for you when it's perfectly stable for the rest of us.

Firefox also has built in spell check so you don't need the Google toolbar.

dude, it's called an education and paying a wee bit of attention. Spelling correctly should not be a problem unless you're dyslexic. If you are, my apologies. If not, don't blame your shoddy spelling on your lack of spell check. (Whatever happened to writing essays by hand in class without being able to use a dictionary?)

    You can install FF3B5 side-by-side with FF2.

Or you can uninstall FF2 and install FF3B5, but be sure to use MozBackup to backup your bookmarks and whatever else (if you want to keep them).

Yes, thank you for listening to my advise after about the 10th time i told you to use the beta. Now you won't have to post in every Firefox thread "Firefox crashes on me all the time "....I jest, but glad to hear you're fine now. :D if you're having problems again just ask for help, this forum is a community for helping others.

no, it is an addon .. this way the library is being kept uptodate by 3r party, instead of within the FF core

    cheers ...
