This works great, except for the small problem that this new version of Protector Suite has a memory leak for me! After a couple of hours the memory usage had gone from around 15k to over 150k memory! I emailed UPEK about this, hope for an answer soon.

EDIT: After contacting UPEK support I found out this is a problem only I have experienced so far! Anyway, UPEK have released new libraries for the old 5.6.2 so it will support firefox 3.0 as well now. Here is the link for them if anyone is interested:

Also a new link to an updated version of the extension for 5.8.2:

To install support for Firefox please set Firefox as your default browser and retry the operation.

There is no Password Bank extension compatible with your version of Firefox.

Guys.... Now that I got 5.8.2, I'm having a problem with it. With the older 5.6.2, during windows login, I would just swipe my finger and log into windows. But now after I swipe, it asks me for "Windows Password"..... which I enter (my user password), and only then do I login. The only reason I'm using fingerprint login is for convenience. How is it convenient if I have to use my password after swiping ? That's twice as inconvenient as just entering my password and then logging in the traditional way. I ran through the settings to no avail. Can anyone help me with this ? I'm really trying to get it to run like the old way.... login with just finger swipe!

Prasad it sounds like you made a mistake when enrolling a user, go to the upek control panel and click "enroll or edit fingerprints" swipe your finger and select the "fingerprint" only option then click "next" and "finish" it should work next time you login

Thanks for the link! Sony's site only has the 5.6 version so I haven't been able to find 5.8.2 for my Vaio but I installed the new libraries and it works perfectly. I was just about to go back to Firefox 2 until I found your post. Thanks again!

Yeah now we just need a solution for Firefox 3.1 beta. Tried to disable the extension compatibility checker and it caused Firefox to crash whenever I used the password bank extension.

Major memory leak for me as well... Been using 5.8.2 for a week or so. Only noticed it today.

PC was up for two days straight and psqltray.exe got up to 800,000k.

Tried the Upek update for 5.6.2 - doesn't work :(
It said I would have to replace two files - but I only replaced one and added 1...
Ah well - as long as the "old stuff" works... worth a try...

Help. I have Protector Suite 5.8.2 build 4367, have downloaded the extension for Firefox 3.0.x but still not working. On the UPEK website is says the extension supports only 5.8.2 build 4445 and higher. Not what? Does anyone know if I can upgrade to higher build. Any ideas on how to get Firefox to work?

    Thanks

Thanks for link to UPEK libraries link. Currently I have (Sony) VGN-Z555 Protector Suite version 5.6.2 build 3651 and could not work with FireFox so found here. Even I make call to (Sony) eSupport and these driver only support what present version I has and suggest me to use IE browser. Told them no way want to use FireFox. They will make request issue for updating version. Till recently I found link to UPEK libraries link only FireFox for 5.6.2 version. After follow instructions then reboot and it work good. These instruction say to put pwdbank.dll in root directory of C:\Program Files\Protector Suite QL and pbgkl_9.dll in directory of C:\Program Files\Protector Suite QL\browser. Need to close psqtray.exe in Task Manager and then reboot. How sweet between FireFox and Protector Suite fingerprint.

From reading this article it seems to me that 5.6.2 is not just older than 5.8.2 but for different machines and interfacing:

I just bought the generic protector suite 5.8.2 and it is build 4489. If anyone needs it then let me know. I uploaded it to my rapidshare account for safe keeping. On that note if your device was embedded in your laptop then you should be bugging your oem to update their version of the software if needed.

    P.S. - I own a upek branded device...

EDIT: If the admin is ok I can post the link here otherwise it will only be provided privately either via PM or email.

    Hi,
I've been doing everything I can think of but I can't get Protector Suite working with firefox 3. I'm running 5.6.2.4286 at the moment, but could I please have a link to your rapidshare copy?

    Thanks a lot!

PS For others looking to get it working, these instructions seem to work for most people: http://www.upek.com/support/customersupport/techsupport/Topic.asp?ID_Topic=53

5.8.2 is no longer available direct from UPEK for anyone looking for it.

EDIT: Don't worry, sorted now! I uninstalled firefox after backing up, applied the patches from UPEK and then reinstalled, following the popups from Protector Suite

    Firefox 3.5 support

    Revision: B
    Updated: 7/3/2009 1:14:33 PM

Firefox 3.5 is supported by following versions of Protector Suite QL:

    * PS QL 5.8.2
o build 5686 and higher (Native support - extension is a part of the installer. Go to Control Center -> PasswordBank to enable the support)
o build 4024 for Toshiba (PasswordBank extension has to be installed manually. See instructions below.)
o any older build (PasswordBank extension has to be installed manually. See instructions below.)
    * PS QL 2009
o supported by all available builds (Go to Control Center -> Applications -> PasswordBank -> Settings to enable the support.)

Please note, that ANY OTHER versions of PS QL, which are not mentioned above, DO NOT support Firefox 3.5.

If you do not have right version please ask your notebook vendor for updated software for your notebook. Each notebook vendor has a custom version of Protector Suite QL and as per business agreements we cannot distribute it.

Standard version of Protector Suite QL 5.8.2 is also available for purchase directly at UPEK web pages:

Does not take much to check manufactures homepage good luck..
If you after the suite google it... ;)
