if anyone is ready for some wild ride!

just make sure that u un.load all ur themes and extensions BEFORE installing this beta version (meaning that this is very bare browser, though some themes/extension is already on the ball)

it still leaves ur previous ff version intact - it just goes thru the normal check.up when u jump from minefield back to ff and vice versa

one personal observation - this baby is FAST!

    cheers ...

to be more specific, unload ur LOKI extension if u r using it, the rest of the extensions/thems would just come up as incompatible - but the LOKI would bomb MINEFIELD big time and not allowing u to past thru the start up of the browser

    cheers ...

I've been using Gran Paradiso for a month now. It was alpha software, but more stable than FF 2.0

may be it will go back to be called Gran Paradiso when RC is available, but the latest alpha build is being properly called MINEFIELD :)

& yes - i agree that it is quite good comparing that the gecko engine goes only from 1.8 to 1.9

cannot installed cleanly under vista rtm

vista forced the installation over the current firefox directory, overriding the current ff exe file instead of installing minefield under \gran paradiso (or \minefield) folder as in XP

it made no difference if minefield was being installed first, vista looks for firefox.exe and just override the previous version w/o offering any choice of a different folder

    BIG MINUS POINT for vista!

    WORKAROUND:
. just copy the whole \minefield from XP partition over to vista, using vista explorer to overcome the security check of dll files
. create a shortcut on desktop
    . no conflict so far

    cheers ...

    vista and Minefield -
unless one lets vista override the previous firefox version during the installation, copying folder did not offer the correct environment for test as in under XP

the workaround above was a waste of time

    cheers ...

Does anyone else find the naming of a web browser "MineField" kind of a bad omen?

as i understood, this is only the temp name until the rc introduction of gran paradiso - it reflects the nature of alpha test version, full of surprises (the game of minesweeper)

    cheers ...

    A little bit, yeah :p

Sounds like a name that would describe random crashes when you click on things.

I thought Mozilla renamed Minefield "Gran Paradiso". I dunno, I think Gran Paradiso sounds way better.

So does Bon Echo for Firefox 2. Mozilla is good with names :D.

I uninstalled mine field (FF3) on my computer as it’s basically the same as FF2. There is no noticeable (at least for me) difference between the 2.

In terms of features, I don't think there is much difference (aside from the upgraded engine) just better stability.

and definitively speed - i run minefield "pure" - no tweak to about.config (speed FF) and would say that it is rendering better than current ff2 -

now all we need is some beta extension/theme for some real test

    cheers ...

page rendering, however, is getting blitzy fast!

    cheers ...
