So I've been a long time IE user and now I've decided to switch to Firefox since apparently it's so much better. I do have a minor gripe about something so simple.
I'm using a plain old optical mouse. It has a left click, a right click, and a scroll wheel. That's it.
I like surfing NBR and pages that require scrolling...but I hate having to roll the mouse wheel when using Firefox since it can't handle a middle click scroll for me. I would like to be able to middle click and move the cursor down and just speed down the page. It works with opening new tabs when middle clicking links. But when I click in a blank area, nothing happens. I should also note that the this feature works in Opera, even though Opera makes the cursor jump to the center of the browser before it transforms to arrows.
Why won't it work for me?
This is what I'm talking about:

that's weird.....it works for me (old microsoft optical mouse as well).
one thing i do notice is that when a page is still loading, the middle wheel won't register, and nbr seems to take absurdly long to completely load everything.....but i doubt this will help you any. -

Works fine for me on my Logitech G5...

It works for me on my desktop PC as well, I'm using some crappy Logitech mouse.

Works for me on every computer and mouse ever tried.
Maybe try reinstalling firefox? -

Let me guess, Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Enable autoscrolling?
-
I was on my desktop computer, which had a previous version of Firefox (1.5 I believe). I downloaded it back in the day to test it. For some reason I preferred IE6 over it. Anyways, so I went to uninstall FF via Add/Remove programs in Control Panel in order to install the latest version. It didn't uninstall it. I had to locate the uninstaller in the Program Files folder to run the uninstallation.
So then I thought FF was completely uninstalled from my system. Apparently it wasn't because the new FF I installed kept all the settings I had previously, INCLUDING an unchecked option for AUTOSCROLL. That's right, Autoscrolling under the advanced tab in Options. That is the culprit. The middle click scroll is called autoscroll.
Man, I'm a newbie.
So now I installed Adblock Plus and Hide Menubar. -
haha...so forgetful of me...i must have myself disabled it...
Thanks! -
Had no problem with FF and the scroll option from way back..
Now using Vista Ult with a Trust MI-4800P wireless optical min mouse, FF 2.00.11 works just fine Dell M1330 XPS. -
NBR actually loads quite quickly for me, compared to most other pages.
-
on IE7 NBR takes too long & laggs while scrolling ...but do we care?...theres no going back now! ...Good Riddance!
