I have no idea what is causing this. Ran spywarem antivirus, dskchk, disk cleaner, regestry repair. It will just randomly freeze, then say 'not responding'. After about 15-20 secs it works again. I am at a loss as to why this is happening. Specs in sig.

Hav u try reinstalling ur firefox?
if ur problems cant be solved by reinstalling...
    i got a few methods.

1.) dont use firefox anymore...uninstall it and use chrome, Internet explorer or opera.

2.) Try stronger antivirus such as mcfee, panda, norton, bitdefender n kaspersky.

3.) If those pro pro antivirus cant solve ur problems den u the last solution is format ur computer.

i get that problem too. Usually due to either loading a darn pdf file (firefox support for pdf is horrendous), downloading stuff (the inbuilt downloader is horrendous) or having too much stuff open.

Consider using the FlashBlock and AdBlock Plus add-ons. They reduce a lot of the unwanted background activity that can impair performance.

Something else you haven't said - how many tabs have you got open at the same time?

If its 30 (like some here seem to have) I'm not surprised - if it 1 or 2 someting is seriously wrong.

I had tried before, firefox, ie, and chrome are awful on windows bootcamp. Safari is simply perfect for me.

You may want to try other browsers just to see if its a firefox issue or a system issue where you need to flush your DNS and the like.

It's most likely the addons that you've installed cos I've got the same problem. I get memory leaks so bad on firefox 3 it uses like 600 mb with 4-5 tabs open..

4-5 tabs using 600MB doesn't mean it has memory leak. Sometimes a lot of scripts and flash can cause these memory ussage figures.
