I got a laptop with Vista a couple weeks ago, and I'm having Firefox crash about twice a day. (I've even gone back to using IE!) Both Vista and Firefox are fully up-to-date, and all my other programs seem fine. Any ideas?

I guess I could try reinstalling it...

    Not enough information. Describe "crash".

I would try re-installing it if I were you. Are you using any add-ons, etc? Is this when you are downloading things, viewing a certain page, etc?

Hmmm maybe I'll have to wait till it happens again. But at least some of the time it didn't actually crash, but Firefox (or the OS) popped up a box saying that Firefox performed an illegal operation and I'm "strongly advised" to close all Windows and restart the program.

Other times, if I remember correctly, FF has either just hung (not responding) or abruptly exited... but I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens next time there's a problem.

I have no add-ons at all except what came with it... not even Flash or Adobe Reader.

it's been locking up on me when I'm using Inter DL Manager and clicking on active links, don't know if this is your problem....

IDM is integrated into firefox..... let me know if it's anything like that as I've been chatting with a Moz dev.

Hmmm... this is Firefox's regular Downloads window, right?
What do you mean by "active" links?

Never seen that, davron, but FF on my Vista machine hangs here at NBR of all places, every so often. Just searches, or acts as if it's doing so, for as long as I let it continue - usually about 10 seconds. Yeah, so I'm a little impatient! :D

Use the search box at the top of the page... not the vBulletin search feature. ;)

Open Firefox > Tools > Error Console

... search the Firefox support forums for whatever errors pop up.

Mine too, Rob. I don't believe it's our machines as I have XP. I blame NBR or Firefox. :p ;)

From my XP days where I found IE7 to be intolerable I was a staunch Firefox user and loving it especially with all its addons. But now that I have a new laptop with Vista OS I am finding that every so often my Firefox shuts down and I have to restart FF. I don't find this a big deal since it is able to reload almost all my tabs and windows.

My big problem with Firefox has been runnimg videos such as Camtasia or You Tube stuff. I am constantly having to shut Firefox down and restarting it to view a video. But when I switch to IE I have no problems viewing the same video. Never had this problem with XP.

    Try this:

Right-click on a flash movie > Display icon > Uncheck "Enable hardware acceleration".

It helped a lot with mine.

Does it crashes with one page opened or many of them?
