Ok, I don't know what's going on with the forum, but it seems to have swallowed my post. Anyways:
When I download a file to a network drive, Firefox completely freezes - even Flash videos pause - for a second or 2 during what I presume is the time it takes to establish a connection to the network drive. Is there any setting or about:config entry that can fix this?

Every version of Firefox since at least 3.6.x has had this issue. This is on Windows 7.
This happens with any file, from tiny text files to gigantic zip files and videos.
The network drives are set up via "Map network drive" in (My) Computer. -
Would recommend just using another browser to completely ignore the issue and not have to deal with it

What happen when you try to save the file on to your local disk drive? Does FF still freezes or does it act normally?

Other browsers are out of the question because I can't live without extensions.

I don't expect Firefox to make network connection establishment go any faster, but I do expect it to handle connection delays in a more graceful manner than just completely freezing. This is a web browser, not some random program with networking support thoughtlessly tacked on in the online help feature. -
