hi guys,
i noticed something weird.
using FF 3.0.4 ..
when i am opening a new tab..the entire FF will suddenly freeze for 10 seconds and if i click anywhere it will crash.
what could be the problem?
-
-
facing the same problem with 3.0.4
-
. How many tabs were opened before the one that "freezes" you?
. What site were you accessing with the "freezing" tab?
. Try unload a few add-ons and check again?
cheers ... -
clear the cache, download chronic, etc. might help.
-
I dropped FF at 2.xxx I had similar lag issue as OP.
-
Try uninstalling some plug-ins...
-
i ll try Safe mode.
i think its mainly because of NoScript add on..from the day they included anti-clickjack technology..my FF has been freezing randomly.
also it mite be after effect of my great HDD accident.
the entire computer undergoes some kind of lag waves when using Firefox -
prolly cause FF sucks....always has been slower IMO - just has a lot of emo fan boi's that think they are "sticking it to the man" by using it.
Go use IE7 much faster, or even Chrome (fastest) -
I had the same issue a while back, I simple uninstalled it then reinstalled it and its now working absolutely fine.
-
Opera FTW!!!!
-
Useless flame bait.
Anyway, I switched to opera because the lagginess, and general unstability is pissing me off. My problems started with the unability to install some addons, mainly Chromifox and Foxmarks, I cleaned every trace of FF3 of my system and reinstalled but while Foxmarks installed correctly, Chromifox wouldn't. I gave up on installing it, but recently, I often get moments(last maybe 5-10 seconds) where FF just stop responding, my cpu and HD usage spikes thanks to firefox... It is quite annoying...

Firefox generally works fine for me.
It has the odd problem - German newspaper, "die Zeit" - can't directly download pdf files of their articles (as in Opera and IE) - I need to open the file.
(Right click save as gives me a php file...)
Now: IE7 is sometimes faster for me, sometimes slower. It really depends on what website you are, how the temporary data is organized, how much of it there is, etcetera.
I disbanded Opera on XP due to RAM eating and, in the old version, high CPU usage when downloading.
I don't like Chrome because its Google...
I also suspect Firefox and IE are the best you can get - even though they have the odd bug...
I use both (also because Firefox 3 doesn'T support my fingerprint reader...)
And although opening many tabs (in both) I may get a lag they are generally stable and do a great job. -
Just installed the latest nightly build of Minefield and so far so good, it works perfectly. ^^
-
3.0.4 has memory leak issues I've heard. Just wait for a patch.
-
Chrome, solved that issue for me
Waiting for next generation Mozilla/Firefox browsers to get out of BETA. Chrome was a life safer when my internet connection was crap last week; out of FF3, IE7 and Chrome, Chrome was the only one able to load web pages. I was getting a connection speed of about 40K down and 80K up, *shudders* its like dial up all over again. -
-
Netscape was better than Firefox. Opera seems nice but it doesn't have spellcheck like firefox does.
I have no issue with firefox. iE8 sucks at the moment. -
It does come up as a High-Priority Updated from WU though.
BTW, running FF3.0.4, no problems thus far. -
i am installing 3.0.2 now -
I was having serious lag problems with FF3.xx on different machines running on Vista. Once I switched back to XP it's no longer a problem. I noticed that FF3 would bog down and almost become non responsive when I visited sites that used lots of Flash.
Turning off JavaScript helped a lot but for sure FF no longer lags for me in XP. -
i'm using the most current version of firefox with lots of addons. no crash or lag or freeze or anything.
-
"Nope.
It does come up as a High-Priority Updated from WU though."
LOL -
What is up with firefox all the crashes make me want to switch back IE, but the interface sux. If IE kept its old look it would own all the other browsers. Chrome is super fast but still has some major flaws especially on certain forums and while downloading.
-
I use firefox because of all the extensions. I'm currently using FF 3.0.4 with 36 extensions on a 4 year old AMD64 512RAM P.O.S. and no lag for me
Anyways, if you have problems with firefox, try: h**p://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_(Firefox) -
^^ Get Opera..
its 2nd best to Firefox.
then there is something known as "Slimbrowser"
its lighter than Chrome and based on IE engine..but its not so glamorized like Chrome..chrome is paris hilton -
go with opera ... smooth and fast and very light .. i love it
-
I have only few plug-ins, all invoked on demand (no adblockers or anything similar that would run on all pages). Still FF is slower than IE7. For me speeds in descending order are : Google Chrome > Opera 9 > IE 7 > FF 3. Despite performance issues, I mostly use FF, because I’ve gotten used to it (and the plugins).
-
Yep, i had same problems too, but might due to my slow system, but IE8 b2 runs better until low on memory, and yes IE8 b2 seems to be lot better then FF 3.04.
FF 3.04 make lots of lag even with one tab opened, what i experience from FF 3.04, it use lot of system memory, so now i switched back to FF2.XXX.
Seems to be ok now, but in the end when ever i get problems from any browsers, in the end, IE runs like a hero and make my life easier and safer.
God bless you all. -

Try using firefox 3.1 beta. It's lighting fast almost as fast as chrome.
At the person who said firefox is slower than ie7 i laugh at you.
Opera is my browser of choice for work. At home i use firefox as the extensions are needed. -
um it is slower, so i laugh right back at you. also compare the mem usage in your task manager.
i guarantee you, if you try to open IDK www.starcraft2.com on both browsers at the same time, for the first time, IE7 will load it faster 9/10 times.
firefox does some wierd proccess of loading the entire page before it displays which slows it down a bit, especially in the broadband era that is unesscary and inefficent, IE7 just loads it all dynamically as the data comes in so your page pops up immediatly. At least that is what it seems to me. Sorry my spelling is poor this morning to lazy to fix it atm lol. -
p.s. all Mozilla firefox is Netscape... so if you like FF so much might as well use Netscape, since FF was born from netscapes source... and we all know how awful netscape is.
-
Garandhero, Firefox was started by people who left the Netscape project and created Phoenix (which came to be known as Firefox). Don't make up things if you don't know what you're talking about. That's like saying "just use IE4 if you like IE7 so much." Firefox has evolved tremendously and is now giving Microsoft a serious run for their money in regards to browser market share. IE, on the other hand, did not change at all between August 27, 2001 and October 18, 2006. That's five years.
Also, I dare you to try to prove that (any version of) IE is faster than Firefox (in any way). You would make a fool of yourself. Safari, Opera, Chrome, and Firefox are all faster than (any version of) IE.
Edit: Here. Read and be educated. Then come back and discuss.
Beta Browser Speed Tests: Which Is Fastest?
Browser Performance Comparisons (Slightly outdated, but still shows how badly IE7/8 sucks.)
Chrome Still Behind Firefox (Most recent, but not a full test.) -
w00t, Chrome has some interesting bug to do with the text boxes. No I use IE7 not 6 in Vista, sorry for the confusion I was thinking of the IE8 BETA. Firefox 3 is pure crap in Vista and I doubt its Vista's fault from how other browsers work. Firefox 2 even works better.
-
IE7 is funadmentally faster than all other browsers in startup time - because it's running all the time as part of the GUI.
Try a defragmentation with JKDefrag after uninstalling, wiping all Firefox files, and reinstalling. -
-
im using firefox 3.1beta 1, i still have no crashing issue so far.
-

Blindingly fast. As for the firefox rendering issue, you can tweak that via About:config.
IE7 wont let you configure it. Therefore inferior. -
I think i am gonna try Safari.
it is **** smooth even on Windows apparently.
Windows own Apps suck so badly on their own OS..
i think i am gonna surely buy Macbook nexttime -

Hey ...Check THIS
i found out the technical problem for all laggyness.
seems like i ll have to change my HDD. -
(Irony)
Typical of companies too proud to accept that they can do wrong...
Anyway...
Just wondering:
This loading speed stuff - doesn't it end up being objective anyway? -
ratchetnclank Notebook Deity
Thats why there is so much debate. -
I think FF may work better on slower older machines for some reason, all my buddies with computers that are slightly older use it and for them it does seem faster than IE which is strange.
P.S. anyone can read wikipedia, nice pull of facts about FF from it, don't be so hypocritical and pretend your an expert either - but whatever you say, it was built upon the original Netscape design and obviously has progressed a lot, but again. Developers at Netscape were to slow to react to MS, lost their market and they released their source and started yep Phoenix, who created the Mozilla project I believe which became Firefox. Netscape -> Phoenix -> Mozilla -> Firefox = Netscape + some improvements? Least thats how I see it.
(actually if you use Netscape the latest version, you'll see a lot of similarities to FF 2.0)
Furthermore IE7 is quite different than IE6 imo, and I am not sure 20% of the market compared to IE's 70+% equals a major threat... yet, IE has always held approx a 70% market as far as I know.
In addition, I really like Chrome too - but certainly not its spell checker, so far its very bugged! Oh well Google rocks so it will be better than IE and FF eventually. -
See I don't do much modding, I don't really use plugins, so I don't need to configure anything. Plus theres no rendering issue to start with?
Saying IE is inferior because of that is just a generalization, for certain users (me) its perfect, no bloated plugins needed for me.
Also I hear people complain about FF crashing a lot - I can't remember the last time IE7 crashed for me. Should I say FF is inferior because it seems to crash more? Nah, I just assume you guys are using plugins that make it crash. -
You said Firefox was inferior because "FF sucks....always has been slower IMO - just has a lot of emo fan boi's that think they are "sticking it to the man" by using it." and suggested to "Go use IE7 much faster".
Isn't that a pretty big generalization? -
Just wondering? Could we all get a bit more objective??
I'll try to sum up the situation:
For most users FireFox is faster than IE7.
For some users, FireFox is sometimes, or on certain sites, slower than IE7.
One user so far has had significant problems with FirFox speeds.

FireFox is unstable for some - possebly due to an add-on of which plenty exist.
IE7 is not tht cusomizeable which leads to a smaller footprint.
Did I miss something out? -

Now, more on topic, Firefox 3.0 loads pages more quickly than IE7. That is a fact. However, rather than debate this, let's just wait for Firefox 3.1 to come out so that there will be absolutely no question. (Fx3.1 is extremely fast. Almost twice as fast as Fx3 in loading JavaScript.)
Also, you said that the latest version of Netscape is very similar to Firefox. I couldn't agree more. Want to know why? Netscape uses the same rendering engine. It has also taken ideas from Firefox, but all browsers take ideas from each other. This is a good thing, not a bad thing.
Phoenix > Firebird > Mozilla Firebird > Mozilla Firefox
All of these names changes were for legal reasons. The original code did come from the Mozilla Suite (started by Netscape Communications Corp), which was based off of Netscape Communicator. So, it goes something like this...
Netscape Communicator > Mozilla Application Suite > Mozilla Firefox
Firefox has become laggier than IE7 for me
