    Hello,

I'm trying to get my mother to use Firefox over Internet Explorer. One problem I'm having is that she enjoys reading her native Punjabi literature online. Most of you probably aren't familiar with the language since it's, for the most part, spoken in Northern India, but Firefox isn't able to read Punjabi. And I haven't been able to find Punjabi language files for Firefox. Thus, she is forced to use Internet Explorer to read Punjabi text. Does anybody know where I might find Punjabi language files for Firefox, assuming they exist? Thanks.

I appreciate the link but that changes Firefox’s interface to Punjabi, and English has been my mother's primary langauge for over 25 years. I’m simply requesting language files to make Punjabi readable.

Ah...gotcha. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Can she read Gurmukhi? If so, check out http://www.satluj.com/. Also, if you're running Firefox 1.5, doesn't it already have Gurmukhi, or some encoding based on it built in? Mine does in anycase, & I know I sure didn't install it...

I'm not sure about the punjabi but I had similar trouble when I was looking for a way to read Bangla websites (for my dad). I think the problem lies mostly with the websites you are trying to view...... for some Bangla news websites I couldn't view them with firefox because they used 'bitstream' Bangla fonts which is only compatible with IE. So I was forced to advise my dad to use IE for those particular sites..... you might be facing very similar problem!!!

Another suggestion is to install the IE Tab extension on FF. Have her use FF for everything else and then when she wants to read the pages you are talking about she would then rt. click and select view in IE Tab. I haven't really used the extension but others have had good luck with it.
