On my family's computer, Firefox was loading blank pages. The computer was connected to the internet, but every page showed up blank!

I searched about the internet using IE7 trying to find out what was going on. I came across this one post from someone with the same problem. He or she said that when the firewall was turned off, Firefox was back to normal. So, I tried it. I turned off the firewall (McAfee Personal Firewall) for a few minutes, and Firefox was working just fine. (By the way, this started happening after an upgrade of Firefox 2 a few months ago.)

We had the computer (Dell Dimension 2400) for about five years, still using Windows XP Home Edition. The McAfee stuff came with it. Is there a problem with Firefox or should I be looking for another firewall? Or should I just keep using Internet Explorer 7 from now on?

You have to allow Firefox internet access.

This is a pretty lightweight firewall if you want to try something else.

But, is the McAfee firewall bad? I still have it installed, but should I go ahead and get rid of it in exchange for this one?

I could be a zealot and say use the one I linked to, but if McAfee works fine for you, there's no need to change. I use Sygate firewall and NOD32 anti-virus because I find them to be lightweight (i've got a sub-3GHz P4 computer too).
