Someone back some posts mentioned usage of Chrome, FF and IE. This is an interesting point. Sadly Chrome won't be talking users away from IE, it will be taking them from Firefox. So a browser that has put a good foot hold in on IE and forced MS to start thinking seriously about changing their browser, will suffer. I do think Chrome has a couple of neat features but nothing I desperately need. Tabs running as seperate processes is likely the best of the them, which means my whole browser doesn't have to crash because of one bad page. The other thing is developers have yet ANOTHER browser to worry about. Yippee more "my standards are better than your standards" to pull my hair out over. All in all I don't think the world needs another browser at this time.

These features could most likely be turned into Firefox addons if need be. For example I use Fast Dial, which is similar to Chrome's homepage, so yeah, as you said, nothing desperately needed.

Chrome did not feel faster than FF to me when I used it, and while it was neat it was not great. Also some major flaws were found in it. Like double charging somebody when checking out on a web site :p

Maybe thats been fixed by now. However FF & Chrome felt the same to me in terms of speed but FF retained better usability & better add ons.

I recently tried mind field and WOW that was a difference, I though browsing could not really get faster but mindfield really did make things more snappy.

    its the winner IMO.

Sweet Minefield is faster than FF... AND LOOK, it's available for Mac too! Wow an Alpha build browser that already has great Mac support. I can use it at work :) Unlike some other beta browser *cough* Chrome *cough*.

If I add a theme to my chrome browser is it going to slow it down. I love it because of it's quickness and if I mess with how quick it is then it is of no use.

It could use a little bit of a facelift and so I'm wondering if I add a theme to it if I am going to slow it down?

I've been using the alpha of fennec the mobile browser for firefox, it seems promising and but has rendering issues atm. I think mozilla will dominate the mobile browser market once it's released.

As for desktop browsers mozilla is top but chrome has some great ideas, it's nice to see some fresh features.

I agree that Fennec looks very promising, but I don't think Mozilla will sweep the mobile market like it did the desktop market. Opera already has a very strong presence here, and Fennec will be the new guy on the block. I think it'll take a lot of time for the market share to shift.

Well there's also Opera Mini which is also free. Either way, Opera already has dominance on this platform and it well-recognized as a good mobile browser. Don't get me wrong, though, I want Fennec to overtake Opera, and I think it eventually will.

I'm getting this "Mozilla Crash Reporter" and it says "We're Sorry" "Firefox had a problem and crashed". Why? Anyone has this problem? This happens very often when you watch a video then hit the back button.

    I'll try google chrome.

Since we're all here talking about browser, I need help from more experienced users. Does Chrome has smooth scrolling? Search around and doesn't help much, its pretty limit within the setting of option.

My take on Chrome v Firefox v Minefield

I am running Firefox 3.04, Minefield, and Chrome.
The last time that I ran IE was to download Firefox when I bought my new laptop, with no problems with pages loading in Firefox.

My main browser is currently minefield, I use firefox 3.04 as a backup if I come across a site that wont run properly in minefield.

Overall I think that Minefield IS quicker, but Chrome FEELS quicker.

Minefield / Firefox seems to load pages in a more linear fashion, one thing after another. Almost like it starts to load the page from the top and works its way down.
Chrome seems like it loads the elements of the page in a different order without feeling like it is working from the top down.
Minefield / Firefox also seems to pause for a second then load almost the whole page at once, while Chrome starts loading the page quicker.
This makes Chrome feel quicker but if I pay attention to how long it takes either browser to load the whole page they are very close with Minefield having a bit of an edge.

No smooth scroll and no auto scroll (press the scroll wheel on your mouse and move it up or down to scroll). You can't even middle click a link to open it in a new tab. Also when I used it, it had a bug where you could not scroll up using the trackpad even though you could scroll down.

Now, Minefield is sort of a FF alpha, right? So it probably uses a good bit more memory than Chrome? (I had it installed, but I don't any more, and I'm to lazy to install it again to check ;)). I was pretty sure that Minefield was faster, from what I've heard/read.

Mindfield is most definitely faster in my experience. As for memory use its such a moot point. With 2gb ram being standard for over a year now and 4gb starting to be the new standard, not a single one of the browsers is going to even touch the amount of ram most systems have.

Un-Used ram is WAISTED ram, if a program can use more ram to run faster thats a good thing, not a bad thing. Just like Vista v.s. XP. Everybody crys about how Vista uses more ram, then the informed do the research and find that it has a smart cache system that speeds up the OS by using the ram, and it will release that ram back to the system if it needs it for something else.

Yes Minefield is basically an alpha for new versions of Firefox.

It depends how many tabs that you are using. With my iGoogle home page open Minefield and Chrome both run roughly the same memory usage, Minefield 49,000 Chrome 48,000 roughly. I have 4 gigs of ram so I'm not that concerned.

I like chrome's visual setup, and how clean it is.

The biggest thing that keeps me using firefox is being able to change the mailto settings to use gmail instead of opening outlook.

The one thing that makes me want to use chrome over Firefox is that sometimes minfield takes longer to open. Not every time but occasionally. I do not have that happen with Firefox 3.04.
I think that this will go away if I go back to the official release of Firefox when 3.1 comes out.

Ok, took the next big leap, switched to Iron from Chrome...and w00t Auto Scroll works again, the test box issue from Chrome is gone and there is a build in Adblocker! Looks like you can't go to About to update, no big :( I highly recommend Iron as being the bit less BETA version that Chrome is. See what happens if you get a bunch of Germans working on something good, it gets better!

All Iron need to finish the 1-2 combo for the FF K.O. is a bookmark editor/management, unless there already is one and I haven't found it yet.

doh, just realized it doesn't...darn it! Well then again, its still lets you do google searches from the address bar, just the suggestions are gone. No big, still semi omni lol. Adblocker is working great, I got the ini file from the SRW website and just dropped it in the program dir.

Presumably you can copy the profiles folder from:

C:\ Documents and Settings \ "your user name" \ Application Data \ Mozilla \ Firefox \ Profiles

From your backup copy to your new install. Shouldn't that do it?

My Firefox was using over 200K memory while running a few tabs and a YT vid last night. They've made the video size wider on YT since though, so that could have something to do with it... It lagged my WoW when HP Health Checker started running.

Haven't tried Chrome yet due to add-ons not being there but FF is becoming more and more unstable for me lately.

That is exactly how you restore your profile. Do not copy the folder, however. Copy the contents of the profile folder into your new profile folder (overwriting everything of course). Or, if you'd rather have it done for you, use MozBackup.

    It blocks ads in chrome.
It changes with all computers though, some it slows down speed, some it doesnt. But id give it a try if i were you. ;)
