The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Firefox ridiculously slow

    A few minutes ago, firefox started getting very, very slow and I get this message:

    "A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

    Script: chrome://searchshield/content/avgls-active.js:170"

    This hasn't happened before and it's weird because I don't even have google chrome installed :confused:

    "chrome" (not the browser) is in the about:config of Firefox, which is running fine on this computer.

    That is actually AVG's Link Scanner script add-on. You can disable it using Firefox's Add-on manager if you continue to have problems.

    FYI, Link Scanner traverses links in a webpage, comparing them in realtime against a database of known malware sites and providing appropriate feedback to the user: http://linkscanner.avg.com/ww.sals-how-it-works.html. It is not required for AVG to function.
