I know we have discussed this several times, but this time I wanted to talk of the "REAL STUFF", I mean who really cares if one opens 3 seconds before the next, or if one has more adds in than the other. I mean real experiences:
Mine:
In Firefox, if I write something in a webpage (i.e. webmail), and if for some reason I go forward and then backwards, I loose what I wrote. Not in Chrome.
In Chrome, and I guess these issues will be solved in time since they refer to compatibility, sometimes I cannot access to my webmail.

Each browser has it's place.
I user IE8 for general compatibility, Firefox for my school, and Chrome for pure speed. -
I have always been using IE but lately it has been crashing alot when alot of tabs are open, and has this bug where it does not remember that path of the last saved image, i have the fix for that, but then it kinda destroys the idea of tabbed browsing so im not imlementing the fix....
i think ill leave IE8 for my MSN games compatibility, and ill switch to google chrome FTW -
IE 5, thats where its at. There is nothing better.

firefox here, always seemed a bit faster and less buggy than ie for me. once u get used to firefox ie just doesn't look as exciting anymore.
-
IE 5 sucks, that's where its at.
Time to move on something new. -
I use FF for the Add Ons, otherwise I would likely use Opera; the "zomg chrome is so fast dude" doesnt impress me.

I use IE8 for speed, asthetics, more stable browsing with better compatibility.
-
I've moved to FF then to IE7 on my Vaio.
Back to FF3, then on to Opera 9.6x and finally from Opera to IE8.
I couldn't be bothered to configure Chrome not to be Spyware - and Google datamines my searches, that's enough.
IE is also useful for my fingerprint sensor, but in the end it doesn't matter what you use. -
I use IE8 for compatibility. I use Maxthon2 for the remainder of my browsing. The one great feature of Maxthon2 is you can have two web pages open at the same time side by side. I've tried Safari, Opera and Chrome but the speed difference is so miniscule between each other.

firefox, and chrome are my favs. i hate ie cos it's unresponsive. there is a 1 sec lag when i open i new tab.
-
I am on firefox 3.0.13
Thats the latest one, I think
NBR, Ebay, and Photobucket do not like IE5 much, so I do use Firefox occasionally
K-TRON -
Firefox.....that's it for me.
Cin... -
Google Chrome, but only because my touchpad's scrolling features don't work in Firefox.
-
-
IE for when Chrome does not work on some sites, there are a few things that annoy me about Chrome but I dont really like Firefox and Opera is a little bloated now adays.
-
Everyone does know that web compatibility issues are the fault of Internet Explorer right?
IE sets its own standards that down follow W3C standards. I refuse to visit sites that work only in IE. The only sites that I make an exception are government sites. -

I'm using Firefox mainly for the addons. Otherwise, I use Opera (I was curious about Opera 10)

FIrefox vs Explorer vs Chrome? Why did you leave out Opera? And, yes, I am referring to the real stuff!!!!
I won't use FF - don't like the concept of 3rd party add-ons/ extensions. Moreover, to me - and I emphasize, to me only - FF is not comfortable to use. There are problems I have faced with the password manager. I don't like the skins available and I hate it that invariably I am asked up update one thing or the other - generally extensions and add ons - when I fire up FF. That said, I do have FF on my machine, but have not bothered to update it to its most recent iteration.
IE8 > I had given up on IE7 a while back and had switched on to Opera (while trying out a number of secondary browsers). However, when IE8 did come out, I tried it and liked it. It was responsive to my needs. It seemed fast enough. I hated and still hate the password manager. I have no use for those 'slices' but did find some use for the accelerators. It is on my machine and will remain so (for obvious reasons). The major problem I have with IE8 now is that I cannot skin it to my liking and as it stands by default, a lot of the screen 'real estate' is wasted.
Opera> I used to use Opera 9.x very regularly. In fact, it was my primary browser. Aside from the initial hiccups about some sites (notably Gmail and other 'cloud'-based app sites), I experienced no problems. True, there was no spell checker, but it was a minor matter. But after the release of IE8, I abandoned Opera (9.64) and used IE8 as my primary browser. Now things have changed. With the release of Opera 10, I am back to Opera - though there are a few nagging problems - again with Gmail and other suchlike sites. I appreciate the spell-check. I also appreciate the new skin, which can be modded to maximize screen space to great effect. I find Opera (10) snappy. It seems to work without a hassle on the site that I generally frequent. The lack of what 'private browsing' is odd given that Chrome and IE8 have it. But then again, I have never used it in those browsers - so that is neither here nor there. In my use of Opera 10 for the past few days, it has not crashed on me. But then neither did IE8. I wonder though whether Opera 10 has the process-per-tab feature like Chrome and IE8. Yes, I'm afraid I am ignorant about this, so if any one of you would like to fill me in then that would be great. Thanks.
Chrome> When it first came out, I was really gung-ho about it. It was snappy and a welcome change from both IE and Opera. I liked the fact that it made working with gmail and google apps really easy. But then I also read the EULA, which as declarations like that go, is not very different from others (I am thinking of MS EULAs here), which gave me reason to pause. Other problems included that Chrome cannot be skinned (at least I don't know how to skin it natively). All this being said, I am following Chrome's development closely because I do like Google Apps (though Zoho and Live Docs are increasingly attracting my attention and I am not abandoning the MS ecology in the near future - though I did toy around with the possibility of moving into the Apple 'universe'. Better sense - relative to my specific needs - prevailed, I guess). Maybe sometime in the future, if there are massive enough changes to Chrome AND if the Google OS does become a viable alternative to Windows, then Chrome is a possibility.
Was this too verbose a response to Firefox vs Explorer vs Chrome?rolleyes:!!! )
Cheers and apologies for boring the heck out of you folks! -

Safari> Downloaded a few months ago - forget which version. Did not like the interface. Don't remember it being as quick and snappy as Opera (or even IE8). Never bothered with it again. Uninstalled it from my machine.
NOW, the statement is complete! Too verbose? -
I personally feel your Safari remark just right ;-) short, simple.
cheers ... -
I use Firefox. Its pretty hard at times to pick Firefox vs Chrome for me
. I don't like Safari on Windows, but I like it a lot on Mac.

Firefox for over 4+yrs, I love the add-ons, it's fast, secure, and I like it.
-
Firefox + Adblock + NoScript. Don't want scripts or flash running on a page unless I allow them. Also, those garish flashing adds you find on some pages drive me nuts & like having a quick way to kill them. IE8 is ok but you can't go to Bookmarks and right-click to open in new tab like you can in FF. I find this to be a small annoyance. Haven't tried Chrome yet.

Firefox for me. My tweaked Firefox easily load pages faster than IE8, Opera and Chrome and I love the add-ons as well.
-
The only other nitpick I noticed from certain members was compatibility. Most likely referring to IE....as usual. Good thing IE Tab takes care of the with one click.
-
FIREFOX is slow>
I am using GOOGLE CHROME>U click and go>>>>>>>>>>> -
I use IE 8 and it's OK, but I know that Chrome is a lot faster, and Firefox has many options.
But nah, I'll stick to Internet Explorer it's okay for me. -
I used and liked Chrome, but now I'd say my FF is actually faster now (well ok they both load instantly now, so the same I suppose!) -

After tweaking, IE8 is the same as tweaked FF. -
-
All those "Tweakers"....
I'm curious: Have you ever found afterwards that something doesn't work right?
(No I don't mean removing useless add-ons that you or your OEM or some software installed, that is not tweaking - that is cleaning up) -
I have found all the speed tweaks to be very safe. Sometimes you have to be careful. For example, one tweak makes Firefox send more requests at once. The default was 1, I changed it to 30. A slow connection wouldn't be able to handle that. I don't know about anything else, I've only tweaked for speed.
-
(Speaking about speedy connections...I don't trust the UK on that, 63. in the world for download.. Latvia beats them!!!) -
What do you mean, lacking a feature? I just mean, a dialup or slow dsl connection might not work with some of the speed tweaks.

The maximum allowed simultaneous connection is 6 i believe for some websites. If you tried to connect with more connections at the same time, some website will deny you thus prevent the browser from displaying the website. Also, setting too much simultaneous connection on a browser on a slower internet will actually decrease its speed. But for a faster connection (20Mb/s+), it's very safe to set the number above 15-20.
-
20MBit/s +
I wonder if yo ever get that at any home in the UK.
Maybe when everybody is asleep...
We pay for 8 and get 3-3.5... -
FF. Nice and easy to use, fast enough, looks pretty good and some handy add ons. That will do me nicely! Not that ive experianced the others for much comparsion, never really bothered looking into them since i'm happy with this. And hey Detlev, you are lucky to be allowed to pay for 8! Where i am right now i think im maxed at 2. Virgin media started putting in the cables across the road then managed to run out of money before they made it over to this side of the street
At least thats my theory, whatever the reason i am limited to two and they are not haha.
-
In Germany at my grandfather's I got up to 40MBit/s on a 16MBit/s connection...
(3MBit/s once though) -
-
I don't like the latest firefox, something was just not working with it, pages were loading slower or not at all and uploads etc were not working.
It was enough to make me get chrome and not go back yet.
So far, Chrome is good for its speed and screen space dedicated to the webpage and less about the third party tabs no-one cares about. -
IE6. Ew. I always hear web developers say that's the worst browser.
