Hi there a total newby here and about to buy my first laptop.

Initially I only wanted a cheap and fairly basic system, but now I think about the big outlay (around £600 to £700) I would like a little more flexibility, and get my money's worth!

Nothing heavy, some ripping, a bit of video editing and conversion using virtual dub. Plus the odd game (again nothing current, dont expect to play Batttlefield2 or Quake 4 etc)

Now with my budget, a laptop with a dedicated graphics GPU seems out of the question. But several systems that are affordable (a HP zv6115EA and a FUJITSU SIEMENS AMILOA1650G3400) have the ATI Radeon Express 200M (shared memory) integrated chipset. Which I am led to believe is one of the better integrated chipsets available.

So this leads me to the question: Would this intergrated solution handle my above requirements?

I realise it cannot compete with a dedicated gpu. I dont require extreme gaming, but as I said it, would be nice to have the option and flexibility at times to play an old favourite. Will it cope?

Sorry if I have brought up a subject that has been done to death! But any advice on this will be truly appreciated as I am abit in the dark with this.. I dont want to make a mistake and buy something unsuitable.

Many thanks, hope you can help

*EDIT* Oops sorrry! i posted this in the wrong section. Its now in Hardware.

€750 would go far here in Canada - it would get you a low end gaming notebook no problem ( http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2574)

The Express is a much better choice than anything from Intel (such as the GMA). You might want to look for a unit with a dedicated 9000 or 9200 series chip as well as these are inexpensive now.

On the Nvidia side, the FX 5200 is an OK if somewhat marginal part (but it got me through Half LIfe 2 on a road trip once). The 6200 with Turbo cache is nice too.
