I know this is a totally boring question to ask, but as usual, MS' help is useless as is their support site on this matter.

I have to use OWA for my job when I am off-site and I want to flag messages I want to get back. OWA says they have that feature but the instructions are less than useless  :

    it says:

There is no message flag in the final column... there is no final column except the one that gives the size of the message (e.g., 9 KB) I have tried right clicking the message when it's on the list, when it is opened... there is nothing that;s useful... just the usual, i.e., save target as, etc.

The third column from the left has as its heading the icon for a flag but pressing that just brings up all the messages that you have flagged...of which I have none at the moment, as I don't know how to flag.

    Anybody have any suggestions?

I hate that my university decided to go with MS outlook... the part I hate the most is how sh*tty the help is, the second part I hate the most is that it does so little, it is not stream-lined and it takes for ever to do something that used to be a flash in Netscape 5 years ago.

    TIA

    * To flag a message with a particular color, right-click the flag that corresponds to the message and then select the flag color.
    * To flag a message as complete, right-click the message, and then click Flag Complete.
    * To sort your messages by color, click the flag column heading.
    * To clear a flag from a message, right-click the message, and then click Clear Flag.

As I said in my initial post -- there is no flag corresponding to the message that I can right-click. The help section says it is in the last column of the message. There is no such last column -- at least that I can find.

    Anybody here use OWA?

Do you know what version of Exchange your university is using?

Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access for Exchange Server 2003 -- if that helps.

I called my university tech support and though, often at many schools the tech people are not that good, ours are. He looked at everything, he also saw that there was no "last column" that contained a flag for each message.

He's going to try to fool around with it and check some other sources -- but any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.

I'd say let the tech work on it. There aren't many user configuration choices through OWA.

This is the layout you should be seeing.

Thank you soooo much for the link. That is not at all how my OWA inbox looks. It looks more like my office outlook though it is OWA. (I have no idea if my office version has the flags on the right b/c I haven't been in since I have been trying to do this. I am working fromhome right now.)

Is there an option to select to get the Inbox to look like that?

Not from your end. The web server formats the way the page looks.

What internet browser are you using to view you OWA?

At a guess you're using an older version that doesn't allow that functionality.

My company insists on using an "old as dirt" version of web access which unfortunately allows you to do nothing at all with messages other than read them (well pretty much, has very basic functionality, but nothing more).

I am using IE&... but it was the same with IE6.

Thank yo uso much for your info. I sent along the link and a copy of this message to the tech guys at my school. They are pretty eager to please.

The version of OWA is 2003... Probably that qualifies as old as dirt... though my university has made a pretty strong commitment to upgrade. Plus in the help file of the 2003 OWA it discusses how to flag messages, so I presume that feature is available for the 2003 version.

It just could be that Outlook was installed in our school in 2003 when we still had the old computer tech people who were absolutely awful.

With the new University President the first thing he did was squeeze out the old head, let og of a lot of the staff and brought in a lot of young talented people. Our tech services have been improving exponentially ever since.

So they may not have realized that there were more options they could choose. At least I am hoping that's the case.

    Just as an update....

My techies at my university looked into the issue and though we are indeed using OWA 2003, we are not using the Enhanced version.

But they in fact have scheduled (perhaps at my prompting questions) to upgrade to Exchange Server 2003 which will allow the Enhanced version of OWA in the next few weeks.

And they asked if I would be in the pilot testing group.

Just a quick update. I am pilot testing the Enhanced version of OWA now and not only does it have all the wonderful features people referred to but much more as well. Automatic spell check is one of may favorites given my automatic typing errors. lol.

Can't understand why they ever went with the unenhanced version.

Just so you know. If you use a browser other than Internet Explorer it will revert to the light version.
