I keep seeing FlashUtil10l_ActiveX.exe in Task Manager whenever IE8 starts up, even if I kill the process. It says it's just the installer/uninstaller, not part of the player itself. Any idea why it may be starting up with IE?

I've never noticed it before, but it may have been going on for a while. PC in question is the Acer in my sig.

Everything related to Flash is working fine as far as I can tell.

Yep, same here. It only starts with IE though, and not with Opera, which i mainly use. But the good thing is that after it has started with IE, it always seems to go away a little bit later after closing the IE. Weird indeed!

It might be launching to check for updates - at least that's my guess.

it only happens on this PC though, the WinXP machines here all have the same version of flash player and ie - yet this doesn't happen.

Then could the homepage have some embedded flash elements?

Well, I browse sites with flash content all the time - but that's no reason the install/uninstall process should start up.

If you are worried - uninstall completely with the tool adobe provides, and reinstall.

I have this on my system as well, only when using IE. I've run various scans of the file, and it's always come back clean. It's harmless except for the system resources it takes up. Either leave it alone or, better yet, stop using IE.
