Flash beta for a reason I suppose. Though I use the latest Flash beta and dev build of Chrome and have never received such a spike like that...or ever noticed.

I was half that a few times but I am not sure if that was really do to flash beta, or dev build of chrome.

could it be that you just streamed an hd video while browsing and that 1 gig represents that?

it could be caheing that in memory hence the 1gig

i just watched a couple of vids myself and saw the active google process go from 40meg to 162meg so im guessing it is that.

This happened to me with the regular version of flash on google chrome. Completely fubar'd my netbook until I ended the process.
Have yet to see it again on my new machine though. -
so if youve been watching stuff for an hour i can see it goin up to 1gig -
probably just the cache ... try delete all the cache cookies and see if the process still that high
